Title: JS-22 fire support tank
Post by: Crbad on April 09, 2017, 12:51:56 AM
Comrade Secretary and esteemed members of the state sanctioned committee on modelling, alternative history and tractor carburator production! The Crbad design bureau humbly submits a strong tenk prototype for to push the defense of the motherland across West Germany and bring the revolution to the toiling proletariat of oppressed Europe.
I haven't been at the bench for a while and need something quick and easy to get the mojo going. Hopefully this does the trick.(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k88/crbad19/IMG_20170406_193738_zps0ughmvku.jpg) (http://s86.photobucket.com/user/crbad19/media/IMG_20170406_193738_zps0ughmvku.jpg.html)

"Baikonur, we have a problem!..."
The plan was to make a JS-3 with a big turret and a derpy, short barreled 152mm.
However:
1.The JS-3 is 1/76 scale and the Chieftain is 1/72. So, the turret isn't just big, but mutant dome big! Our engineer responsible, has received a glorious promotion testing tropical gear at our Siberian facility.
2. I don't know how old these kits are but they're terrible. Has venerable Airfix been taken over by cost cutting capitalist Yankee dogs?
3. The tracks are too short. They threaten to rip off the sprockets and idlers under tension. I may attempt to stretch them a mm or two with a candle or just put them on and see what happens. Maybe they'll stretch on their own?
Anyways, here is what I have...

Huge, like the Motherland!

Maybe glue either the sprocket drive wheel or the front drive wheel slightly inwards. Vinyl isn't the best modeling material - don't give it an excuse to fail.

I return from the mandated tour of the polystyrene mines and decal printing collectives to find you all have been hard at work, bolstering the defenses of nasha Rodina! (Наша родина)

Sasha, the Third Deputy Assistant Marshall for the Positive Recognition Sub-committee of The Committee of State Sanctioned Modelling, Alternative History and Tractor Carburettor Production, agrees:

Comrade Crbadkolov! Thank you for developing this mighty engine of peaceful defense of our glorious homeland and our socialist brothers held under the yoke of capitalist greed!

COMRADES!

It is known that the armoured fighting vehicle kits of capitalism firm Airfix have remained unchanged since the time of Comrade Brezhnev! The men and women of ATJAaVBCF No.38bis commend you for continuing and advise they do not see the differing scales of turret and hull as a problem, but as an advantage! The intimidating size of the replacement turret demands respect!

Press on, comrade!

Don't think the turret is too bad.  :) Certainly more useful than the KV-2 this vehicle probably replaced.  :icon_beer:

I think the turret looks good. :) :)

Big, sure, but not ungainly like the other KV turrets.

Overall, a much better solution than the box-on-a-tank.

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement comrades. He is mostly completed and has moved off the factory floor to be shot...With a camera, that is. Once again the workers spirit and ingenuity have triumphed in the face of cheap capitalist styrene! (Literally, cheap. I think I only paid $4 each for the kits)
The big turret has grown on me. I have a 1/35 scale JS-3 in the stash, if I could get my grubby little hands on the old Tamiya Chieftain... >:D
