Does anyone know if there is a 1/48 Northrop YF-17 (below) available or should I look to convert a F/A-18?

I may be wrong, but I don't believe anyone ever made it in 1/48 (there is, of course, Anigrand's beautiful 1/72 one). If you are going to do the conversion in 1/48, hunt down the original issue of Esci's F-18 in that scale, it still has the slots in the LERX and, being closer to the prototype configuration, is a easier starting place. Of course, if you don't want to go that far, the same kit can be used to produce a production F-17 or a F-18L.

According to the PAK-20 book, a company called Labbe Model Productions had plans to do a vacuform one around 1991 Greg,
but up to 2001 when the book was published nothing had appeared. But it's now 11 years later so it's a direction you could take to look. The guy's name is Michael Labbe and he's out of the USA although I can't find anything on google.

Hiyas Greg, il email over a conversion article to make a Cobra from an F.18, pretty straightforward altho just about every part of the model is modified to some extent! a colleague of mine used the same to carry out the conversion in 1/32 scale, an impressive looking model :)

Thanks Mate - look forward to it.
Would love to see that 1/32 conversion - sounds impressive.
