JGSDF builds.
« on: July 21, 2017, 05:33:12 AM »
Hi everyone.
It has been way too long since I have posted any work here. I hope all is well with you all.  July is almost over, and I have only completed two models. :o  So much for getting one finished in a one month time period.
JGSF is Japanese Ground Self Defense Force for those who do not know,. First up is the Fine Molds Type 60 106 mm recoiless rifles kit. No after market parts were used.
Not a bad fitting kit. There were a couple steps where I wished I had three hands. Especially for the tow cable attachment points. I made some mistakes on the toning down of the shine of the paint. For whatever reason, I just could not get a matte/ flat clear coat to work. Someone suggested misting on a thinned Tamiya buff.  I put a little too much buff in at first.  I was able to save the model.

I did not use any pigments this time.  I may quit using them.

Second up is the Tamiya Type 90. The markings that came with the kit are from a Godzilla movie called, Tokyo SOS. The antiskid patches were done by brushing on liquid glue, and swirling an old paint brush in those areas.

I used Vallejo matte clear coat, with maybe four drops of Vallejo flow improver on a hot and humid day. After that cured a couple days, I then misted on a heavily thinned Tamiya buff all over the model. One drop of buff to ten drops of thinner.

Oh, I like these a lot! They both look great and the camo on the Type 90 is especially well done. I have a fascination with post WW2 Japanese armor although I'm sorry to say that I still haven't bought the Type 60 yet.

Both models look great.  Now you need a 35th scale Godzilla to go with your Type 60 ;)

Thank you Zaskar.

Fine Molds is when Tamiya and Dragon Models got married and had a child.  The instructions and fit is like Tamiya. The detail is like Dragon.
The drive sprockets had a very loose fit. Which is probably a good thing, to make sure the link and length tracks fit.  The part where I wish I would have had three hands is where the tow cable mounts onto the front of the kit.
