Been lurking here for a while so I thought it was about time to post something.
These are just some missile boats I made using unwanted/spare parts:

And here is a spruance'd sawakaze:

Great entrance - look forward to seeing more. :)
-
They're different, nicely done and a great start!!! :) :) As GTX said great entrance! :) :) 8)
I've built both the kits you've used here and the Spruance. I think your second No.13 class Sub Chaser would have severe stability problems with that huge ASROC box launcher on its quarterdeck. The 'Spruanced' Sawakaze would work as it cures a prob these 3 sisters had, no helo facilities, but yours is at the expense of the Mk.13 single rail missile launcher, I think 'A' gun would've been landed and the Mk.13 placed in that spot, very little structural change and only loosing one gun mount, what would amount to a great increase in capability.
I look forward to more Whiffs :) :)

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the ASROC, but I've got more of them than I know what to do with. But I did think about pulling off all the armaments, putting in a fore and aft RAM launcher and an aft mounted 76mm gun like the Israeli sa'ar 4.5 boats
And with the Sawakaze, I was just trying to match the general layout of the spruance class, I didn't think about making improvements at the time, but good point about the launcher though. Also I just realized that I could have put the torp tubes on that nice empty space near the sparrow launcher, but I can always fix it later.
And here's the rest of my ships so far.
Some corvette types made from the pit-roads Yamagumo and Chikugo:

A 1/1250 tri-maran flight deck Spruance, I consider this as a prototype for a 1/700scale version:

And those 1/1250 bottom hull make a for an okay looking 1/700 submarine:

Wow!!! I am loving those latest ones. :) :)

That's quite a fleet you've got there, polygon! Quite a good use of spare parts!
Welcome aboard Beyond the Sprues! Looks like you'll fit right in!

What a fine and well thought shipyard!
I specially loved the trimaran and the subs. It is quite a cool idea to recycle the bottom hulls.
Keep them coming! :)
-
WOW!! Those additions are brilliant!! ;D ;D Love the trimaran CV, the arsenal ship ....... well actually everything you've done!!! :) :) 8)
These are Sawakaze's Skywave sisters, my Sawakaze is still in it's box ;D ,

Thanks for the comments! and don't worry I've got at least 100+ whiff ideas of various categories, so stay tuned.
-
Please proceed, love this sort of thing.
All those ships look great. Love the Trimaran and the Aresenal ship
This gets my juices flowing to dabble in ships again after the HMS Trident Trimaran build
-
Great work, love ships and this has got me fired up to maybe finish some of mine.
-
Like how you make what you can with what you got on hand and scratch work too.
Decades ago did similar with hulls, structures, guns, masts, etc that were handy.
Pulled it off well with each looking right for what it is. Good ship building skills :)

Continuation of my flight deck spruance that I didn't get to finish during the floaty GB:

Flight deck spruance nearly finished, just the liferafts and macineguns to go. This is my favourite ship so far.

USS Hayler DDH proposal built from a Kidd kit with a twist. Still experimenting with camo (I'm getting really sick of flat grey), didn't turn out exactly as I wanted but I don't want to repaint it:

There's no internal hangar detail, but Hasegawa probably left the elevator as a separate part for some intrepid scratch builders.
The hull comes in 4 pieces, my first experience with such a kit. There were some obvious gaps in the joins, but the hull built up to be perfectly flat, which was the most important thing to me:

The airwing is quite nicely detailed. Fun fact - the airwing shown on the boxart is exactly what you get in the box(2 seahawks, 2 merlins and 2 ospreys).
Merlins, you get 2 right halves and one left half:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/CC992A07-B3BA-4EE8-9F09-AA16D721E3AC_zps7fslzcr4.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/CC992A07-B3BA-4EE8-9F09-AA16D721E3AC_zps7fslzcr4.jpg.html)
Seahawks, I especially like the detail of the landing gear:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/C9535DBA-EBD4-45F9-80EA-2E701C29A22B_zpsj8m3sdtu.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/C9535DBA-EBD4-45F9-80EA-2E701C29A22B_zpsj8m3sdtu.jpg.html)
Ospreys, I really like the way Hasegawa split the body. Aoshima and Trumpeter have the tailfin as a separate part which is a pain to get on and always breaks:

Deck vehicles:

Here it is next to the best thing I've got to compare it to, a Wasp class LHD ( I would love to have it next to a CVN, But I don't have one yet):
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/D7DDF698-F53B-4CB6-B9D4-751C00E464C6_zpskn3ms7ve.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/D7DDF698-F53B-4CB6-B9D4-751C00E464C6_zpskn3ms7ve.jpg.html)

(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/25A0DF3B-FEC9-43C5-8F44-5434E26322C7_zps54ikdswk.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/25A0DF3B-FEC9-43C5-8F44-5434E26322C7_zps54ikdswk.jpg.html)
It's only about 1 deck lower than a Wasp:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/DD00660A-2CDE-4193-B969-93BBF7FD2A5A_zpsoseodq2p.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/DD00660A-2CDE-4193-B969-93BBF7FD2A5A_zpsoseodq2p.jpg.html)
Even bigger than an Audacious class carrier:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/D3EF75C7-EEFE-4155-86B2-6095FB3CE6BE_zps6egmedat.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/D3EF75C7-EEFE-4155-86B2-6095FB3CE6BE_zps6egmedat.jpg.html)
On a side note, I see what you did there Japan:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/50B222E3-08F1-4844-8D6A-77F3E54634D6_zpsmrji3avm.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/50B222E3-08F1-4844-8D6A-77F3E54634D6_zpsmrji3avm.jpg.html)
Altough it could be just because of the ospreys:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/92BDDE26-E973-4773-B91A-E0B4D008F3EC_zpsakrzscqf.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/92BDDE26-E973-4773-B91A-E0B4D008F3EC_zpsakrzscqf.jpg.html)
All in all, I think its quite a nice kit. Would have also liked to compare it to a Hyuga, but I don't have one either. Funny story, I was JUST about to place an order for a Hyuga, but before I clicked submit I went for a quick browse on the net and discovered the reservations for the Izumo opened up! - bigger hull = better whiff potential.
-
Love the Hayler, can't wait to see what you do with the Izumo, I assume it won't be OTB?
-
They did a lovely job on the Seahawks and I especially like the way the Ospreys can be displayed fully stowed or opened-out, ready to go fly.
-
Wow, can't believe its been a year and a half since I've worked on a ship build. I guess I was distracted by planes. Anyway just for a quick build I brought out some of my F-toys 1/1250 Modern Navy Kit Collection ships, nice little prepainted kits.
Having fun with superimposing pictures onto backgrounds, although I did it the wrong way. I took the photo first then looked for a background instead of finding the background first and then matching and taking the photo of the models - lesson learned.

JS Akizuki (top), JS Hyuga (bottom) and AOE Towada (top right) provide AA, ASW and UNREp support to JS Osumi (center) and JS Akitsu (left) as they conduct amphibious warfare drills in preparation for a possible Chinese invasion of the senkaku islands Godzilla attack.

All except the middle one are out of the box and I seem to have lost a phalanx :icon_crap: those parts are tiny!
Also need to get started on that Izumo soon.
-
Nice, really nice!
Need to order myself a Hyuga and Izumo or two. If not to build, to at least keep my other ships company on the shelf.
-
I especially like the shots of those tiny aircraft in the elevator opening. Made my day!

Need to order myself a Hyuga and Izumo or two.
Pit-road is releasing their Izumo and Kaga soon. Probably would get one myself if I didn't already have 2 Hasegawas.
I especially like the shots of those tiny aircraft in the elevator opening.
I was pleasantly surprised, its a nice feature on such a small kit.
Pulled Izumo out of the box, this is where I left off about a year ago.

Liking what Polygons Shipyard builds. That camo scheme is different and seems to work at being confusing.
All is extra interesting since I'm back to gun boat building.
Lot to be said for waterline builds.

I like your tweaks, polygon!
This wonder is not so much a whiff as a "why didn't they do this?!"
Most excellent!

Not my scale(s), not my time period or subjects of interest but .. this. Very much this.
And those 1/1250 bottom hull make a for an okay looking 1/700 submarine:

Thread Revival!
Small weekend project: Small landing ship. Basically cut a chunk out of an Osumi class LST and added a hangar to the side of the island capable of storing 3 blackhawk type helicopters, also embarks 2 LCACs.
