IPMS Canada CAPCON Ottawa
« on: September 04, 2013, 05:52:08 AM »
For those who are planning to attend CAPCON, the list of vendors tables is posted here.

Start your wallets.  Time to "borrow" one of those hand baskets from Loblaw, Farm Boy etc.

Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

I was a vendor at the last capcon and had a hoot. Although I missed a lot of seeing the show, I got to meet loads of modellers. I found that pricing my stuff at 50% of retail ensured I sold 90% of what I brought.

This year, I'm not vending, I'm gonna be looking for some deals!

Does that mean you'll be flipping through my stash-for-sale for WHIF potentials at Terry Jones' tables? ;)

And no worries, you shouldn't be able to miss me...I'll be wearing my IPMS Ottawa blue shirt.

Here a few pictures the WHIF'd builds. When I left there were over 250 kits on display and still more were coming in.

Lt. Sulu reports that the shuttlecraft's subsequent explosion appears to have slightly decreased the planet killer's output power. Kirk realizes Decker may have had the right idea but not enough energy to succeed. Kirk has Spock determine if the thermonuclear detonation of the Constellation impulse engines inside the planet-killer would destroy it.

If you look closely, you can see Capt Kirk getting a wee bit nervous as the transporter keeps shorting out.

The crew of the Calypso saw the trails in the water but then it was too late for poor Jacques and Phillipe and the whale hugging crew as the two man mini-Kilo class submarine fired two torpedoes at point blank range. The Calypso and dee min-sub made their last dive. The whales blew one last blow in respect and then went back to eating krill

They are both AVRO Canada projects.

First one is the Project Y-2: the "flat-riser". Scratch built.

Second is the Project Y. Fantastic Plastic 1/72.

More info available here.

...I had to go home and let the dog out.

Great...now I have that song bouncing in my mind... ;D

No worries, lad. If you recall that one vendor that had those older 1/72 kits going for $3-4, he would have let me snap them up for a $1 apiece if I could have located you...and he had about 25+ of them left at  closing. Then again, your wife probably would have given us both the EVIIIIIIL eye had she seen them running into your stash... ;D

Funny you should mention the SWMBO.  I got enough grief with what I bought. But this not to say after a week or so, I can start the process all over again.  :o

Hi fellas, sorry I could not spend longer at the show. My wife got called in to work and it was the first time our kids (6 & 4) had ever been to a sitter. Even stil , I managed to stay an hour longer than planned, though could have easily spent several more hours at the show tables. I just had time to do one quick sweep of the tables and was getting ready to start a closer look when the room closed for judging. Overall impression was fantastic. I didn't enter anything but had a few builds on the OCAM club table, and even a couple WHIFS (the Centurion 2x40mm SPAAG and the Bobcat ADV).

I'll be there tomorrow!

Flogging a few kits for some good deals. Haven't priced all my stuff yet, but things like Italeri LAV-25 for $5, Tamiya for $10-15. Pretty much 50% off retail and less. Bringing in my books too, Osprey and Concord pubs for $2 each.

I think Sid roped me in to judging. I don't have anything on the contest table, but will have a few on the club display table again. I brought a C2 MEXAS built by Pat Johnston to enter in Armour on his behalf.

Ditto Graeme. Bought me a vendor table.

Bringing about 188 kits and about 50 books. Need to help pay for the upcoming bathroom reno.

Lots of great customers yesterday! Came with around 4 cubic meter boxes, went home with less than a half. No wonder stuff went quick, Tamiya T-55 for $15, Abrams for $10. We were pretty much sold out by noon. Some fantastic aircraft on display, and a very cool 1/20 scratchbuilt Krokodil...I wish I had the builder's info.

Sold about 1/2 of my kits. Saw lots of larger scale kits being purchased (1/48 and larger).  Books did not sell. Note to self for next time.

Met up with Graeme and Klaus.

Also spoke to a some other Whiffers and encouraged them to join BTS.

I moved maybe 1/3 of my books, but I was practically giving them away, $2 for any soft cover. Still had people haggling, over a dollar.  ???

Here are some pictures from the displays. Some are WHIFS and some RW. Did not have much time to look but from what I saw there were some awesome builds.

I was told this build took 6 years.  Polish gentleman.
