USAF SAAB Draken Aggressor
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:28:35 AM »
In the early 70's the USAF was starting it's Aggressor program for dissimilar air combat training. They wanted an aircraft with the size, speed and maneuverability of the MIg-21. The current inventory was mostly large long range fighter-bombers like the F-105 and F-4. After some searching, there were able to lease a squadron of 12 Drakens from the Danes. An exchange which included F-4 Phantoms for the Danes at reduced prices.

The model is the OLD Airfix SAAB J-35 Draken. It was build basically out of the box. But a  training AIM-9 and ACMI pod replaced the AIM-4 Falcons on the pylons. Paint was light blue on the bottom and dark tan and dark earth with slight weathering topside.

This was build for the One Week Group Build over on What If Modeling.

Always thought Draken has an extra fast edge of space look like SR-71 does.
Your scheme makes it look more formidable than Sweden's scheme.

Very nice model!  :-*

It was build basically out of the box.
"red star + usaf markings" is probably not "out of the box", but more funny, thanks! ;)

Great build Ed and that scheme works very very well on it!

Always thought Draken has an extra fast edge of space look like SR-71 does.
Now that gives me an idea!
