Steampunk Squid Sub
« on: March 24, 2020, 05:03:55 PM »
Hi guys

Portugal entered the "emergency state" last week, so the circulation of persons is  very restricted and stripped down to the very essential.

I am currently working from home, with extra spare time and nowhere to go :(

So, let's begin with this!

My kit stash is always very small, so I am a big fan of recycling!

In this case, a pretty common garden hose connector:

I added a part I asked a friend of mine to print in 3D

Using the spare box to "fill in the void", I ended up with something like  this:

After that, it was just a small step to become the world famous  Steampunk Squid Submarine.
The Triple-S, as it was known :)

The scale is something around 1/350.  Imagine something 30% larger that a German S-100 WW2 boat.

To be continued...

Thanks for watching and a word of sympathy for all of you who are suffering in these dire and difficult times!
Let us hope for the better!

Mind Blown!

The thread title had me wondering if you were inspired by this video: https://vimeo.com/11034820

Hi guys

Thanks for the nice comments!

I was not aware of that video. But thanks for sharing, it is great!

Regarding the painting, I have not made my mind yet (as usual :)), but I am thinking "metallic colors".

For the time being just some black primer:

I sculpted the roofmate stand with a hot soldering iron, and the result was cool. It looks like a rocky sea bottom (kinda :) )!

Thanks for watching, and keep safe!

A mechanical, steampunk squid! Talk about an imaginative concept!

Looks every bit like something out of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

Just super, Antonio!

Hi guys

Thanks for the nice words!

Yesterday I did some painting....

But the result was too gloomy and depressing (at least for me!). So I "erased" the colors and returned to square one.

I need more color, life, emotion. Some pizzazz, to be more accurate! ;)

Such a shame! that was beautiful! If you wanted colour, using red or even a turquoise on the front canard surfaces would have been very cool. Some yellow or red banding and panels would really tart it up.

However I look forward to what you do come up with!

Finally completed!

Fresh new start on the painting, followed by a subtle weathering with oils, and some dry-brush on the rocks.
