As the Priest SPG was retired from Commonwealth service, some were set up as Armoured Personel Carriers and others lanquised in depots. Looking at their roomy interior once the gun was removed, some thought was given to using the chassis for a Engineer vehicle.
This vehicle ended up being the forerunner of the Current Combat Engineer Tractor used by the UK forces.

So like Claymore some digging round revealed and old (and horrible) Italeri Priest that was beginning to undergo the conversion to a Kangaroo APC. It was so horrid it got shelved.

The plan is an enclosed vehicle with a bucket and/or interchangeable dozer blade
So a session with the plastic card gets me to here

A lot of tidy up to do and final fittings such as a trip to a $2 shop to get a toy loader for a bucket
-
That looks like a great start to an interesting conversion. I'll be looking forward to updates as they come.
-
*pulls-up-chair* This is gonna be good! :icon_beer:
-
This will be fun to watch!
That Combat Engineer Tractor sure resembles a Sherman hull.
-
What a great idea... Looking forward to seeing this one develop. :)

I'll be watching this from my comfy couch.

Looking good, can't wait to see the end result
-
Don't you hate when you see something like diggers, graders etc in $2 shop a couple of years back and now nada >:(
So had to go down the "build your own" path and dig out the plastic card. Again.
Just a quick update of where we are at after tonights session
Added on the bucket/blade.
Extended rear deck housing for the hydraulic auxillary engine where one of the bins was.

next is getting the welds on by using a hot knife tool on the sprue you can see. Not the most realistic method but good enough for this kind of build.
-
Coming along very nicely.
-
Your plastic card work is excellent. Better than dollar store stuff.
-
Looking good! :)
-
You ARE a master at scratch work with card stock :)
Is coming together well.
-
Well this has just zoomed ahead, the mojo must be in the zone
The result of the hot knife weld work. Not as good as the epoxy putty but for this type of build, it does the trick

Well this is pretty much it before paint

A conversion like this on real vehicles may have extended the life of the chassis by quite a few years. Not to mention the value of this type of
enclosed superstructure for Command Vehicle functions.
next paint.
-
Excellent, simply excellent!
Now that we see it made flesh, as it were, it is difficult to fathom why such a practical design was not made for real.
Looking forward to seeing it completed. :)
-
Coming along nicely.
-
See the quality of work I have to contend with down here? ???
No wonder I'm getting AMS & going all detailly! :o

Calling this done.
The British Engineer Vehicle Mk1 know to the troops as the BEVVY. A rebuild of Priest SP guns that were replaced by Sexton SP guns in NWE Theater. Removing the gun and adding an extension to the Front of the fighting compartment to improve forward visibility and a covered top for overhead protection. This Type of Engineer Vehicle went on to serve well into the 60's in Territorial units until finally replaced by the much updated Combat Engineer Tractor in the late 70's.

Sweet! A very smart looking modification to be sure. Never seems to be enough engineer support vehicles as models.
-
A great idea for a conversion and beautifully carried out. A most believable result - bravo! :)
-
I like I like I like !! Really nice work !! Fantastic work with the sheet plastic, and a great finish.
-
Masterful work and craftsmanship on display here. Really like the look of this.
-
So-o very, very good, Brian! Impressive! :) 8)
-
What a great idea and so well executed too. This is totally credible and could really fool people. Well done! :) 8)

Already has... took it along to Club night and got a couple ;)
-
Not surprising. It's excellent ... but subtle. Hope you scored a BEVVY or two out of those Club members ;)
-
This looks so right; it's hard to believe that someone, somewhere didn't try this on a Priest. The welding gas cylinders on the rear look real, too.
-
Oh, I like this one A LOT!
-
Dang, that's nice!
Alvis 3.1

What the Kangaroo coulda, shoulda been.
Excellent work!
