Some Of My Old Builds...
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:01:17 AM »
I'm in a modeling mood today, but unfortunately away from home and unable to get my styrene fix...so instead I thought I'd post some of my old builds on here for the folks who dont know me from other boards...anyhoo, here is a bit of the whiffery I've engaged in for the past few years.

First an oldie...one of my first builds when I got back into modeling around 2005...USAAF P-77 Vampire Bat.  This is a parasite fighter designed to be carried by USAAF bombers in the last days of WW2 in 1946.

Next is a BAES Firestorm FG.1 flying from HMS Queen Elizabeth c. 2020.  This design was developed from the BAE Replica program following the collapse of the F-35.

Monogram 1/48 Skyraider as a North Carolina Forestry Service "Fireraider" fire bomber.  This was built for a "Secret Santa GB" on another forum. Floats are scratchbuilt from balsa and lots of red putty.

Nice straightforward decal-only whif of a RAAF F-100 serving in Vietnam.

ESCI 1/72 F.27 as an RAF Guardian AC.1A gunship serving in Afghanistan c.2008

AMT A-7E as a RN Corsair "Sea Eagle" trials aircraft as seen when deployed during the "Red October" crisis of 1984.

Hase X-29 modified into an RAFG F-29A (Scorpion FG.1) in the mid 90s.

Old build Monogram AV-8B restored as an IDF AV-8B Cherev, deployed to a FOB in the Negev on the eve of Desert Storm.

Hase 1/72 Tornado F.3 with F-18 wings as a Tornado FG.5

RN Sea Jaguar FRS.1, South Atlantic SEAD mission load, May 1982

1/48 Hase A-4E as a RN Skyhawk FG.5, Kosovo campaign, 1999.

British Army Comanche AH.1, Falklands Garrison

1/144 RoG Rafale as RN Tempest FG.1

Old Fujimi 1/72 F-16 rebuilt with Rafale wing as an alternate F-16 in service with CAF in Germany, early 90s.  B-62 nuke under the left wing.

RoG Hunter F.6 as a RAF 74 Sqn Hunter FG.15, late 90s.

1/48 Academy Hunter F.6 as JASDF Ryoushi (Hunter)

Monogram 1/72 SR-71, shortened and modified as Lockheed F-13A Raven ASAT, Groom Lake, early 1970s.

RoG Su25 as an RAF Raven GR.1 modified by BAE with RB.199 engines, and UK avionics.

Monogram 1/48 F/A-18 as RN Hornet FG.1

1/72 Fujimi Mig21 as a defected Czech machine in service with Empire Test Pilot's School, Boscombe Down.

RoG 1/72 Hunter F.6 as RAF SEAC Hunter F.12, serving in South Vietnam as Canberra escort, c.1969

Fujimi 1/72 Phantom FGR.2, RAF SEAC, serving in Vietnam, c.1972

Hase 1/48 F-104G as RAF Starfighter F.1,  RAF 74 Sqn, First Tiger Meet, 1961

Oh, what a nice walk down memory lane. Your A-4 and Harrier are two of my favorites! It's raining nicely here so no painting for me. Maybe I'll do the same as you.....

Go for it Eddie!  I figured since it's a new board with as many new faces as old ones It'd be ok to throw out some 'oldies'.  I like looking at some of thse old builds, even though I often see something I think I should have done differently.  It's also nice to see how my skills have improved over 7 years of whiffing.

Since I'm in a plastic nostalgia mood here are a few more:

Academy Typhoon as a Tiawanese example c.1948.  This was my first attempt at using a wash to highlight panel lines and the left wingtip shows were I overdid it and stained the finish a little.  Still, this particular scheme is one of my favorites.

Monogram A-37 as a USMN OA-37C during Desert Storm.  In retrospect the Sidewinder just doesn't look right and needs to be removed.

My first RAF Starfighter. An Italeri kit as a late 80s F.2A

My first RN Skyhawk, a Hobbycraft A-4B as a Skyhawk FG.1 painted in commemorative 1952 scheme of EDSG over Sky to celebrate the Queen's 1977 Silver Jubilee.

RoG Hunter F.6 as a Red Arrows late 1970s machine.  This was a one-day build with minimal tools and supplies on holiday in England back around 2006.

RoG 1/144 X-35 as Lightning FG.1 in the special 92 Sqn scheme reminiscent of the EE Lightnings, painted for the RAF 100th Anniversary in 2018.

Airfix Gnat (old one) painted as an RAF Gnat FG3, one of a handful of examples outfitted with weapons and deployed to the Falklands in response to Argentine  aggression in the late 70s.

Another of the Army Comanche above since the pic above is pretty dark.

My first USAAF P-72, old Hase kit.

Chris, I fully expect that in time there will be nothing whiffy about an F/A-18F on HMSPOW...
