I thought I'd bring my most recently 'completed' build over to share. This one is for an Australia GB on another board. It's the nice Academy 1/72 kit built OOB except for a stretched sprue seat firing handle and a pilot figure and AIM-9Ds from the spares box. Decals are mostly from a Fujimi A-4. This started out with the intention of a camo scheme, similar to the late RAN's late A-4G scheme, but with gray, blue, and tan as the colors. For some reason I could never make this look 'right' so I fell back on a USN scheme, following on from the RAN's A-4 scheme.
It's been relocated to proper stand, but for not the only pics I have are these, so here she is:
RAN 805 Squadron Super Etendard, late 1979 Exocet trials aircraft. In addition to the normal VF-805 markings this example carries a 'zap', a small USN stars and bars sticker on the left intake. This zap was recently acquired on an overnight stay at Subic Bay.

As always, you present a very well built model for us to appreciate.

Great job. 8)

AD:
Awesome build.
I see you put the Exocet on the port pylon vs the starboard. Is that because the Oz folks drive / fly on the left side of the road? ;D
Carl (who is going to get an right earful now)

Very nice stuff. Is the red rudder & drop tank of significance? Given the a/c is a test platform?
Carl, I would have said the 'normal' side of the road... >:D

John

I love Oz Magic, AD, and you portrayed it magnificently

No real significance to the red tail and tank, other than I wanted more color on the model, and love the colorful 70s Naval schemes in the USN. I have another RAN build in the works and the plan with that one is to go ahead and mask/paint a full red and white checkerboard tail as per the 805 Sqn alternate markings.
And as for the reversal of the normal loading of Exocet right/tank left, there is a very good reason for that...I forgot and didnt realize until the model was complete that I'd screwed up the sides. I'm sure the RAN have a perfectly good reason for the reversal though... ;D
Thanks for the comments guys!

Nice job!

Sometimes it really is worth going back through old topics.
Great job, very convincing!

hmm.. I like it. :D Gives me ideas on an F11 Tiger I have handy... hmmm

Makes me wonder about a "pushed" Super Etendard with variable intakes and an afterburning Atar09 from a Mirage IIIO and a more streamlined radome.
-
Or a J-79 ;D
-
I was thinking of logistical commonality with the Mirage IIIO. Yeah, a J79 would work fine with possibly a PW1120 re-engining at a later date.
-
Very convincing!
I love the "zapper" decal... makes me wonder if I should have a few of my old Sqdn zappers done up in 1/48 or 1/72 scale. :)

Hi,
Very convincing!
+ 1

Gorgeous work! I've always thought the Super Etendard is a fine-looking design and it looks great in that scheme and marks. Lovely job!
