Looks good.

I would really like a 1/48 or 1/72  Saturn IB.

Hi,i will start this build again ,hopefully third time lucky, heres the start for your enjoyment, hope it does,nt bore you

Hi again ,right im having a go at some resin models lately as ive been a bit bored with the mainstream offerings lately, this is the first of the saturn apollo rockets ,the end game man on the moon,so this is the first of about 24 different rockets before the moon rocket.most of the vehicles were the same with subtle variations,ie payload, testing water instead of fuel, different stages etc...testing different paint designs because of spiking on heat monitors etc the history is quite fascinating,Most of these were unmanned,.So this is saturn apollo 1,basically a redstone missile with a load of fuel tanks strapped to it.
Sa1-sa3 basically the same paint design, black and white alternate tanks on first stage then a small chequered pattern on the interstage, then a all white second stage, which was water filled to test the stability in flight, and ballast.first stage thrust was1.3 million lb,and i believe the flight lasted 8 mins 4 secs.
The kit is all resin, pretty simple, but effective its all down to sanding and painting so enjoy, theres more to come(did i hear stifiled groans)..have a look at history, cheers Don

The start,at the beginning, the cluster base

giving the clusters a trim to fit

try a fit

Are we sitting comforfably ,we,ll begin...

giving the clusters a sand, trying to level, thats the hard bit?

trying to trim up the cluster tank tops

sanding the other end of the tanks

next trimming up the flash in between the tanks, using the dremel

trying for fit/level,thats the important bit..

almost the lower stage done

the upper stage pieces.

enjoy Don

That pic totally made my day, jetboy!

I have a feeling your rocket is going to turn out better than hers though.

Right,hello..i thought i,d finished it,but the more i look at it,i think not,im not too happy with the finish,so im going to start again.so bare with me,if you want, but thanks for your comments on the build so far,so here we go again....

ok,start stripping off the decals and paint.

put a scew in the base, mainly for an idea fo a display stand?,also it makes it easier to hold

first repaint

little bit of caulk around the cluster

first look at the repaint

working out to see how far to put surface detail on?

decided not to use the kit decals for the tanks,so it needs a bit of masking, for the paint

starting to put detail on.   cheers Don

HI,GREG, thanks for that, the answer is i dont know, ive seen some really nice builds, out of wood and dard etc, even paper, but no kit, unless you go for the flying ones, which are very detailed and accurate,so doing one of them as a fixed model is probably the way to go?
 thanks Don

HELLO, heres the final pics, ive called it finished,so here it is......

Saturn one----SA-1.....A.K.A. BY ITS CRITICS as " CLUSTERS LAST STAND"

Programme named Saturn as its the one after the jupiter, programme

launched oct 27....1961

This was basically the first step towards the Moon,President Kennedy, said of the Saturn Project, that  the launch of SA-5 was the launch that caught up with the russians, and passed them, with regards to lift weight capability?,He said this the day before he was assassinated.

The SA-1,s big successes were, verifying the launch configuration of the lower booster stage, and a dummy version of future,Apollo upper stages, flight simulations of the Apollo command and service module,s.

the next flights would fill the dummy stages with water to see how fuel would react /affect flight, suprisingly the project was named "Project Highwater".

also the last few of this configuration were used to launch the Pegasus serie,s of satellites.

It was also considered for the launch vehicle for the proposed Dyna Soar space plane.?and also considered for launching a Gemini capsule on a proposed Moon mission?

So basically SA-1 was a cluster of eight Redstone boosters, around a Jupiter tank,With 4x tanks painted white which contained L.O.X {LIQUID OXYGEN].

And 4x tanks painted black, which contained RP-1 rocket fuel.

The outer 4x engines {,with red on the model] were swivelled,so the booster was steerable.

Right heres the pics, let me know what you think?,and thanks for sticking with this.   cheers Don

well thats it,on to the next one, thanks for looking and your comments,  cheers Don

I hate to admit this but you couldn't pay me enough to build the rockets you have, but I've really enjoyed your builds.  I'm impressed by your work and can't wait to see your next build. Keep up the great work !!!   I had a friend who was an astronaut on the last Skylab mission. Any chance you will be building something from that program, any time soon ?  I would love to see what you could do there ...
I may be old but I'm not dead ... yet anyway ... !!!    And NO I did not know Richard III !!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words father, skylab will be on the way,but theres a few before that? i think im getting too old,not enough time scenario, too many kits, and subjects,i blame the internet for all this, when i were a lad,all we had was a library book, and the observer book of space, and the i-spy book, thats all the references we had?me,im finding new things to me every day?....anyway thanks for the reply, hope my builds dont get too boring, and thanks for looking ...cheers Don
