I'm having a VTOL maudlin moment this morning so to help you up and out of bed here is some really nice art work on the Convair (General Dynamics) Model 200 which lost out to the Rockwell XVF-12A for the VFA: V/STOL Fighters for Sea Control Ship Requirement.

I think a Saab Gripen might be a good place to start for the wings, associated fuselage area and intakes.
Tha landing gear on the V/STOL version looks pretty much straight from an A-4 Skyhawk, but with the main gear units turned back to front.
The nose looks like a "scale-o-rama" of a Hornet and a late Harrier.

Good start. The intakes look more like F-14 ones (suitably scaled) than Gripen ones though.

1/72 F-14 intakes for a 1/48 Model 200? I think the ratio on the airflow and size would be about right.
I could see a developed derivative with a F-35B-style lift fan and uprated engine (has to be easier on decks and unimproved surfaces than those lift engines).

I was seeing a bit more Vigilante in the intakes myself.
Were it up to me, I'd use a Gripen as a core and build the intakes onto it with some sheet styrene stock.

Hmm, intakes from Revell's odd scale (smaller than 1/72 but larger than 1/96) A3J-1/A-5A kit for a 1/72 Model 200? I've got one with a second, spare, vertical that's donating both verticals to a 1/72 derivative of the original twin-vertical mockup design.
