Scifi and Fantasy / Hammerhead - Space Above and Beyond
« Last post by Buzzbomb on Today at 08:08:30 PM »
Remember Space Above and Beyond... reasonably good Sci Fi show.. canned after one season, the marines were ground pounders one week and the next in the SA-43 Endo/Exo-Atmospheric Attack Jet  or the Hammerhead.

Some of it filmed in Australia where the full sized mockup lived for a while. Apparently there is an interesting story about some Russian sailors seeing the the full size mockup getting shipped to the US which lead to a flurry of frantic picture taking.
So one of my Resin 3D buddies printed out a Hammerhead from Thingiverse, we went largish, around 1/48, but that meant it had to be cut up a bit to fit on the print plate.
So fuselage in half and two wings complete with stores. The print came out ok, the stores were very average.
Somewhere I have a picture of the parts... cannot find it though. Image this in 4 bits

Things did not start out well, the join of the fuselage halves moved during the epoxy glue setting phase. Bin it.. start again, new fuselage halves

Warp forward 6-8 months later (around now  ;)  ) with replacement fuselage bits.. have another crack. Lots of Apoxy Sculpt to fill in gaps at the joins as trying to get the joins flush with
this resin is pretty hard. The stuff is rock hard and sometimes can shatter on you when drilling and sawing.

Better this time (see first picture). Using some 1/48 and 1/72 Aircraft missiles for stores and a bit of 3D created gubbins for sensor pods

Ok that went well so into the paint shop, this is the preliminary work with post shading. The Canopy is still masked off as that was painted first in gloss. It is solid so nothing to see inside.

Thanks.  So good to have SR-90 in final steps.  Had one more (lessor) encounter with paint demons, got it resolved.
Tried what the hey different color scheme.  Did digging in rattle cans and bottles stash and ended up with this.  Decals will probably depart from standard practice too.
Hope to take pictures soon.

OK we've done swords into ploughshares, now turn it on its head..... ploughshares into swords. Basically take a civilian vehicle/object and weaponise it

Other / 1/35 Prospector
« Last post by Frank3k on Today at 10:54:37 AM »
I recently got the Master Box 1/35 The Wild West. Gold Fever Series Kit No 1 Gold-digger and was compelled to build it.

I also renamed it to "Prospector", because while he may be a gold digger, that means something else in modern parlance.

MasterBox figures vary widely in quality, with no real rhyme or reason. Some of the shortcomings have been poor detailing and a deviation from scale - some figures are as tall as 1/32 figures would be.

Luckily, this grizzled prospector is pretty good. Face details are adequate and so is the detailing. The donkey is nicely molded. The general pose and outfit could place the prospector anywhere from the 1800s to some futuristic post apocalyptic period.

I'm trying to improve my figure painting and I've made small gradual improvements, so this figure has been good practice.

The lacing on his boots was poorly molded and barely visible. I found a Trumpeter figure (which are almost all trash) with extremely prominent boot lacing, so I cut them off and transplanted them to this figure:

I detailed his open eye - even has a correctly scaled pupil - but the telescope blocks it completely:

I also have the beast and rifle from the Master Box 1/24 "World of Fantasy No. 2" kit:

I did some surgery on the rifle/weapon to roughly match the length of the Prospector's rifle. I also moved the trigger closer to the buttstock:

I used some glow in the dark powders mixed in with red and smoke clear Tamiya acrylics.

Here's the other side of the rifle:

I'm debating whether to fix some of the painting issues with the figure or move on to the donkey.
