First post!!  :D

As the title says it's a Whiff straight from the box without any effort at all!! (yeah right!!  :-[ :)))

This and the Dragon F-117A (at the bottom of this post) are my first completed plastic models since 1995.  8)  ;)

Lockheed F-117A Stealth Fighter 56200/WA 1/144 scale Revell kit no.04037 from 1992 (I think).

My Flickr;    https://www.flickr.com/photos/45800749@N07/sets/72157686803392346

Started initially by my eldest stepson in 2004 (he's now 22) and then put back in the box as 'too hard', restarted by me 24Feb2014 after my stepson told me it couldn't be finished, so it was finished 14Apr2013 as 56200/WA (the kits' decals) alongside a Dragon F-117A in the same scale. Basically the Revell model is at best a caricature of the real aircraft with only a passing resemblance to the F-117A Nighthawk more of a 'What If' (or 'what the ..... ?' ;D :o) really. It is totally incorrect and undersize, and I was going to consign it to the bin as it really is a joke model but then decided my boy was wrong  :))

Firstly I had to fix and clean up the 'start' made by my stepson, requiring a lot of cleaning off glue trails and removing miss-aligned parts.
The cockpit tub and inside of the canopy was painted with Humbrol enamels, the detailing was done using Prisma colour pencils.
Then on to major assembly which was not fun and required repeated filling and wet/dry sanding to blend all the joins, especially the huge underside join between the top and bottom halves. After this was finished and smooth the panel 'details' were rescribed.
The model was modded to have 'drooped' flaps and rudders and the lower anti-collision light added as per the "real aircraft" at rest as well as some decals made from cut up decal to represent some of the larger placards seen on the landing gear and weapons to try and lend the kit a bit of reality.

So after masses of filling, sanding, rescribing and modding it was painted with Vallejo (Grey Black overall colour), Italeri (white wheel wells etc.) and Gunze Sangyo (details and matt rattlecan varnish) acrylics and Humbrol (details) enamels. Future was used to repair and restore the clarity of badly molded canopy transparency and as a gloss varnish (overall) for the decals (very thick) and then seal them in. Weathered with Tamiya panel washes and artists pastels, the lot sealed with more Gunze matt varnish. It didn't come out too bad really (just too glossy) and is a great comparison to the more accurate (?) Dragon F-117A. ;)

Here's the Dragon 1/144 scale F-117A for comparison with the above "joke"  :-\

There's lots more pics in my Flickr (see the link above) the differences in colour are caused by different lighting conditions as the model is quite dark.

Thanks for looking all, I hope you enjoy it.
