The planes about 95% finished. I just gotta figure out how to do the markings.
And I'm sure they won't use the AIM-9 in 2040 so I trimmed the fins on the Sidewinders and called it the Aim-12
The AIM-12 has slightly longer range and fuel than a standard sidewinder but it can attack both air and ground targets.

AIM-132s would be a more likely bet, though Darters wouldn't be out of line. On the other hand, AIM-9X missiles very well could be used then.

Any advice about that titanium rear section? Bare-Metal Foil (hell, even just tape masking on compound curves) scares the crap out of me, and Model Master Metalizer is driving me to a psychotic episode...

Diamondback.
I'm nothing fancy. I just get model masters metal paints in the little bottles.
And i've gotten so used to doing the titanium part of Eagle's that it's second nature. I used no taping.
The only two paints I got were Aluminum and Steel. No mixing just the bare paints.
And a simple paint brush is all I needed.
The area closest to the nozzle is aluminum. The rest is Steel.
I had also painted the WHOLE plane with a paint brush.
