Folks:
Remember LT. I. M. Knowbody of the Bell F-11A Condor fame? Well he's back but now he is assisting the RAF with the same problem for the ETO. He been asked to help the RAF build their the own jet based PR asset.
So here we have WIP shots of the Gloster Meteor PR.1. The Meteor is an Airfix F.3 and the wings are from ... we'll I leave that as an exercise for the reader to determine the source. :-) I don't want to spoil the back story.
I had to build my own spars given the approach I needed to take to attach the new wings to the outside of the engine nacelles. (Can you say MPM butt joint?)
Full back story to be provided at model completion.
Cheers,
Carl

Looking good Carl.

No clue on the wings, but it looks like its going to be mighty pretty when its done....PRU Blue, I hope? Or did that cease to be the
high-altitude scheme post-war?

Ha! One of the things I like best when encountering a new, fellow kit-basher is setting up a new file folder on the HD in which to save pics of all his cool ideas. Love the way you're cuttin' into the styrene on this one, Carl. Will be following this closely.
-
I don't know, if you will do something more with wings, but inner parts would look beter if they will be as wide as outer parts. BTW. If anyone will make Meteor PR.2, what about using scale-o-ramed Canberra wings?

Ha ha, I do the same... :D

I as thinking along the same lines. It does look a bit strange. Let me do some dry fits and see what it looks like.
I'll let someone else build the PR.2

You're off to a great start and I'll be watching with interest!

Very interesting.
I would leave the wings like that, but add a "fillet" at the front?

I would like to know what kit provided the wings for your project. I am stumped at identifying the wings original donor.
-
1:48 wings on a 1:72 aircraft, right?
-
Okay. The wings are from a 1/72 DML Do 335B-4. The Recce version.
Here they are finally attached. PSR is still required. I decided to inject some reality as the Derwent's could probably not lift the full size wings. I like the new lines. Also for comparison is the original F.3 wing. The scale wingspan is now 60 ft vs the original 37ft.

Here are wings for the Do 335. They are huge. You cut off the ends and add the extensions.

Hmmmmm, wonder if PR_19 from the "other site" is over here ? He would have kittens if he saw this one ! :meaw:

He might be. I see PT19_kit as a member.

Doooooh! I ignored anything with propellers and was focused on jet powered aircraft so that serves me right for getting stumped like that. :^)

You have to watch out for us Canadians. We do some weird things up here. Just ask kitnut617.
I'd do have to admit that it wasn't planned this way the swept back leading edge does add some nice lines to this.
:D

Ah, he's a fellow Canuck: okay, NOW I understand why he makes so much sense to me!

Nice chop job! It's always rewarding to see something like this that optically balances well.
Great concept. I'd never have thought of the Do-335 wings as being the donor.

Folks:
My apologies for a most tardy delay in posting updates.
You see my new employer said I want you to work from home as we are too cheap to give you an 8x10' cube and pay for your parking.
Fine I said. But in order to maintain my previously level of production, I want a 2 + 2 schedule. 2 hours of work and 2 hours of modelling. It has been proven by the Modelling Monks of Mongolia that this balance of work and life allows the employee and employer to get to a higher state of consciousness and you get a very productive employee respectively.
Well, guess what? I did not happen. My modelling is slow and my work is slow and poor quality. Oh well, they had their chance.
Anybody need some orange robes? Just a few splashes of paint and green squadron putty.
Almost there. Primer is on. Another round of PSR is required as my engine nacelle to wing joints have a hairline crack already.

Crikey ive only just seen this ! Good stuff !
-
Saffron robes would make good paint smocks -- those'd be 'paint parkas' for any Ardrossan boys reading ;)
Those Pfeil wings are a really good fit. And, remember, PSR is the most direct path to Nirvana ;D

Folks:
Finally, progress. I removed the tape about 10 minutes ago. Need to clean up some small paint pulls and fix the wing demarcation line at the outer panels. Otherwise it is starting to look like a airplane.

I see a red dot my forehead.
Okay. This one landed on the shelf-of-doom but I had a brain fart the other day on how to fix up some presentation issues. It should be done in 2 weeks.
-
Look what fell off the shelf of doom and on to my bench.
While building the P-47s, I noticed that the Academy decals kinda fit the Meteor tail.
Using the USAAF F-8 Mosquito red tail paint scheme I took it one step further.

I regret putting the strips on the wings. Mr. Future will not let me take them off.

Blurry but it shows the tail decals.

Carl, you really are on a roll with all of these updates for your projects. Keep them coming! That is a very nice looking Reconnaissance Meteor you have created this time around.

That is a great looking model already :-*

I completely agree and I couldn't say it better!
I actually like the stripes on the wings. Hopefully they'll grow on you over time.

Same goes for me as said by: Jeff, Taiidantomcat, Brian :)
Very sagacious of you to select Do 335B-4 wings. Never would have identified donor.
Is a beauty.
-
Fourth ditto here too. Lovely.
-
That is a sexy looking plane! The colors are just right, too.
-
:)
-
Woo Hoo!! It's done.
Here we have the Meteor PR.I. Another modelling mantra of mine: The kit with the fewest decals always gets finished first.
I was going to use 108 Gal paper drop tanks but decided to raid my Matchbox NF.11 and took the large belly tank and the landing gear. The cameras are from a Quickboost kit. I left the faring silver as it was a field fix.
Decals are from various sources. The FAA / Techmod donated the squadron markings.
Finished with a brushed coat of Future.
@BdB: The wing strips don't look so out-of-place with the roundels on.

And it all comes together, magnificently so!
You could really gas-light a lot of people with this one, Carl.
Nice work!

I thought Kit had joined us a while back. Might have that wrong and am thinking of someone else. Don't forget to invite him to join too :)

Kit (PR19_Kit) is a member here (he joined on 16-12-2011) but I'm not sure how often he visits.
