1/144 scale,f-18 inspired by GTX drawing(will not be close to what he drew, but i liked his so much i came up with this).

Hmm, I'm getting really tempted here. I've got a F-16XL that's going to get re-winged as the advanced bird that the UAE didn't go for and that leaves me with a set of XL wings. I've got enough F-18 kits for other purposes...
Methinks I'll have some playing to do. I suspect it would look quite sharp in prototype markings.
-
i like his drawing alot but i had a hard time making the port n starboard wings match so i kept cuttin em down, and i did nt like it goin so far up the front cutting off line of site down the side.
-
Oh helll, I am being blamed again...
-
I really like the shape of that wing.
Nice work!

just a little question for you gtx, what was your ideal shape for the lower vert stab?
-
Damn, that's cool! :) Always wanted to see this one built!
-
Bravo, Maestro!!!
(standing ovation)
really, we need an applauding emoticon
-
also ,i dont like the round intakes but i do have a f-14 to chop up, so i am thinkin of puttin the intakes from it on and the afterburner cans on. the stock ones just look to small. what says yall?
-
Great! I dream of a square:
F-16A F-16XL
F-18A F-18XL
Cross families like I love. Thanks!

Don't really have one - you do whatever you think looks best.
-
ok, ditched the idea of modifiying f14 intakes and made my own.

just a little bit of some psr required now.

*chuckle* You're damn close to Super Hornet intakes there. You still need a means of diverting the boundary layer to keep from stalling the inlets.
-
yeah i kinda copied the look of the superbug.now about "diverting boundary layer" how or what do you mean?(not an engineer , only a lowley airframer, work center 120 ,ams)
thanks for your input!
-
Simplest answer is to point you at the Super Bug's inlet, where there's a gap between the top of the inlet and the LEX, with a shaped bit of structure a bit of the way back that smoothly close out the gap. You'll see similar bits between the F-14 or F-15 inlets and their respective fuselages. The F-35 was the first design with a diverter-less inlet and there shaping move the boundary layer away from the inlet; the J-31 looks to use the same approach as does the J-10B.

Just realised how TINY this thing is... BRAVO !!

A truly little jewel. Can't wait to see this girl all dressed up to kill

She's a beaut man!!! If I may make a camo suggestion; USN Arctic Aggressor - VFC-12 8)
-
Beautiful. I'd trim the sides of the inlets off flush with the top but it looks great.
-
Like Cliffy B said but i'm not sure which camo.
I'd prefer this one http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=254982 (http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=254982)

That was the scheme I was thinking of! I have more photos of that exact plane from an airshow a few months back. I can upload them if anyone is interested.

I, for one, am definitely interested.
