There are a number of similar options put forward:

Lockheed Martin Longshot:

Raytheon Fish Hawk:

I believe the Indian were also looking at something:  Glider Assisted Torpedo, NSTL Visakhapatnam

A lot of this is driven by the fact that the P-8 is intended to be able to deploy such weapons from up to 30,000 ft - no more doing a low level straight in torpedo run!

BTW, an interesting thought with these kits: one could fit them to other items...and not just weapons.  What about a guided, deployable supply container?

A question, once the torpedo enters the water, do these wings detach, or can they remain fixed so the torpedo could ""fly"" through the water

The torpedo detaches while the combo is in flight and descends via parachute in the same fashion as the Ikara system.

Stressing the wing system to enter the water would add unnecessary complications, and it would slow the torpedo
down dramatically.

It would make a bigger, unnecessary splash as well.   As the Ikara showed, way back in the 1960s, the best method is to drop the torp and have the missile body fly on, splashing down later away from the target zone, so not as to alert the target that a torpedo has been dropped in their vicinity.

With a booster rocket, it could make a good vertical launched ship-based stand-off ASW weapon  :P
