When I was a kid in the late '50s and early '60s, I thought British fighters were painted Yellow during WW1. The then-current box-art reinforced this idea. This is a1/72 Esci Camel painted and marked to replicate Jim Cox's 1956 artwork for the Aurora famous Fighter 1/48 Camel kit.
I have never found a reference to a Yellow Camel. Based on the artistic license of the original box-art, I think this model qualifies as a genuine "What-if?" build.

I replaced the kit propeller and wheels in this otherwise-OOB build. The decals are from the kit with a Serial # added from the scraps.

I used Floquil Reefer White and leftover Airfix acrylic paint pots from an Airfix Sea King HAR.5 gift set(Signal Red, Trainer Yellow, & Flat Black).

Aurora made its first six WW1 kits in 1956. This is my third 1/72 "copy" of the original box-art from that group of six. I have done a Green Fokker D.VII and a Red Fokker Dr.1. I am planning a Dark Purple Albatros D.III, a White Se.5a, and a Dark Gray Nieuport 11 Bebe to round out the collection.
Adios, Larry..

But they were weren't they?
Top job!

First of the US Navy yellow-wings ? ;D
Some of those early box arts were very gaudy & inaccurate but served the purpose of getting us hooked.

accuracy be damned, I think its looks great, and very close to the original box. Nice work!

Gotta love some of the early box art. Your rendition appears to have taken that off to a tee.

This is nice! When I was a kid, I built most of the Aurora WWI fighters because I could afford with my weekly allowance and have money left over.

I like this yellow little model, I don't care about its similarity (or not) to the "Real" one, as far as I am concerned... ;)

Lovely CSMO. And today I bought another Biggles book, so very well timed. :)

That may be one of the most pleasing Sopwith Camels I've ever seen!
The paint work must've taken a very steady hand. What a testament to your amazing skill, Larry!
