If you want to see how realistic it is try firing a .22" down the neck of a glass bottle, should be easy as its a very small projectile and it doesn't travel all that fast as far as bullets go, but it will not happen because of a little thing called air pressure.  Just think of the compression in front of an aircraft as it approaches the speed of sound and you will see what I mean.

Good idea: air compression is the problem! So the RBB-38 would work perfectly on a planet without atmosphere! If there is Insurgency on the Moon basis, the RB-38 could be sent there! But why wings (or rotor) for that? Uh... For decoration, beauty!
No: I am going to draw a jet wingless version for outer space, thanks! COIN there is very new also, thanks again...

And here is the RBB-38S against insurgency in outer space:

Back on the Earth planet, there was another Coinightning both twin-boomer and single-engined (for a less noisy approach):

Shouldn't that be a giant mirror to reflect lasers?  ;)

Thanks for this idea.
Well, a plane mirror is uneasy to set always in the right direction, and a mistake in direction would reflect towards collateral victims... So a parabolic miror is still the best I think. Not only against lasers but against microwaves and all weapon technology of 22nd century... (if ever Humanity is able to walk on the Moon, I mean: for Real, not only in Hollywood's studios like in 1969...)

But as the final requirement was for a twin-engined aircraft, zwilling the source happened, into an asymmetrical four-boomer:

Inspired by the Blohm und Voss P.165 and P.163, the BvP.38 went less and less asymmetric:

You probably know that the (fast fighter) P-38 was coded FO-1 by the US Navy but you probably ignore the F2O-1, -2, -3 (COIN seaplane single-engined asymmetric dérivatives) that won against the (still top secret) Independance War in Hawaii 1946:

The CoP-38K, L, M were somehow inspired by the XP-67 Moonbat:
