Jeep Locomotive

A jeep locomotive as used by Australian troops in Borneo. I took the easy way out with this and added some rail wheels to a diecast jeep.  I made this some time ago and one day I'll get around to making the train for it.  Shown here on a small diorama piece I made to show my model rail stuff for the old Aramac line in Queensland.

That's a neat little model. What scale is it?

Rail trucks and buses have always interested me a bit and somewhere way down on my "to do" list is a GMC 2 1/2 ton truck converted to a rail switcher.

Scale is 1/72.  I used to have a large number of Road-Rail vehicle pictures somewhere,  I work for the railways here and we use quite a number of them.

I've seen pictures of US Army jeeps being used in those roles post D-Day in France, due to a lack of locomotives. You know, those things the allies had been blowing up prior to the landings!

I always wanted to do a diorama of one pulling a boxcar, and title it "Boxcar Willys". :)

Sorry, it's the name of an old country musician.

Nice model, btw.

Bravo!!  A truly beauteous pun.  Camthalion, that's a beatuvful mode.  Are those tracks a standard gauge or sized to fit the model?

Thanks! I'm sorry there's not more US prototype model railroading in that scale. Nothing wrong with 1/87 scale but 1/76-1/72 would just be cooler IMO.

The tracks are 12mm gauge from Peco.  Used in Australia to represent the 1067mm (3"6") tracks used in various states.  By a happy chance it is also used as metre gauge track around the world, which is what the Australian jeep locos ran on.
