Hawker Typhoon - New Project
« on: November 27, 2022, 08:45:26 AM »
Monogram kit that I've had since Adam & Eve were teenagers...

Question is, what to finish it as - quite like the idea of doing it as a Post-War French machine like my Mk22 Spit. All ideas and suggestions very welcome.

French Spit is sooo pretty!  :-*

French Texans in Algeria had some lovely "shark"-mouths (not actually sharks, I think).

EDIT: Zotz has some interesting schemes for 1/32 Texans. Schemes and colours wouldn't look bad on a Typhoon.

Yep... and from memory France used both Spits and Mosquitos in Vietnam in the immediate post war, so that could be a possibility. Was also thinking of Soviet and USAAF. Keep the ideas coming folks please.

I like the French idea, but what about a South African one over Korea instead of their P-51s (though in a similar scheme to):

I thought about that just this morning, but shelved-it as I couldn't see how a Typhoon would still be a front-line machine in 1950... I know the North Koreans still had IL10's and La11's but they were a generation after the Typhoon.

Other thoughts I had were Nationalist Chinese and RAF Auxiliary Air Force.... Could definitely see a Typhoon in the post war Dark Sea Grey/Dark Green/High Speed Silver or even overall High Speed Silver - decals would be easy to source aswell, pretty sure I've got some Meteor & Tempest sheets in the stash. Also thought about a Typhoon Night Intruder... I'm sure it was proposed, and it seems like a logical follow-on to the NI Hurricane experiment.

WHIF markings?  How about a postwar Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana Typhoon IB ... unless an engine swap is in the offing?  ;)

No engine swaps, I'm an unapologetic 'paints kits differently' modeller, don't do complicated stuff. I do like the idea of Central or South American subjects. A lot of those post-war Latin American schemes were extremely colourful.

High speed silver will be good. Just needs a few splashes of colour.

Shiny, either way!

So far looks very good, joins are almost impossible to see & ... no visible flash. ;)

There will be - I've got it straight in my head where this is headed now.

Thanks matey, even more self-imposed pressure to 'get it right' because of the monotone finish. Just part of the process, eh ?

Main painting finished now:

Next will be a couple of (medium) clear coats to make it ready for decals. With luck I may be able to get this done over the weekend. More next week, cheers from Middle Earth.
