Brengun 1/48 Messerschmitt Me P 1103/II in natural materials.

This is a project I started in January and has been progressing very slowly. Nearly there though!

The canopy of this plane was pretty spartan, but even so I added a lot of detail here, including the throttle, canopy release lever, oxygen equipment, skid release lever, seat belts and instrument wiring.

The tailplanes didn't fit well and I used staples in the hope to strengthen the joint. But to no avail, they've broken off half a dozen times since.

The model was primed in Mr Surfacer 1500 black and the wooden areas were given a coat of pale yellow in preparation for the Uschi wood decals.

Panel lines were traced on Oramask masking film, then scanned and redrawn and cut out of the masking film with a Cameo 3 for trial fitting to the model. After a few corrections they were cut out of the wood decals and applied.

As I was using a buffable metal paint (Mr Metal Color 218) I thought it was a good idea to apply it last. Sadly despite two coats of matt varnish (GX 213) and use of low-tack masking tape, some decals were damaged, the one underneath the right wing tearing in half. So I'll need to fix that but the finish line is in sight.

The wood grain looks great! Are you going to leave the metal bits shiny?

Yes I'll leave the metal shiny, but I expect it to dull down a bit from handling. It's intended to look like it would on the factory floor. With filling and sanding going on, the wood tends to look rather crude compared to the brand new metal parts.
