Note what appears to be the Australian sniper version of the SMLE.

Charles Schultz meets Harlan Ellison by way of George Miller.  ;D

The Peanuts, A Boy and His Dog and Mad Max mashup we've all been
wanting to see.

Ted Ward's Post-Apocalypse Mobile Library

"Today marks 40 years since the release of Mad Max. One thing I noticed they lacked in all four films was a supply of decent reading material. Despite the collapse of modern civilisation in every meaningful sense they still seemed to be OK for tyres and headlamps and things but where could one go for a copy of Middlemarch? ..."

A couple of previous Post Apocalyptic builds:

28 Months Later: Rage Virus Survivors;

(Note: I'm fairly sure this was my first build when I got back into modelling; if not, it was the second.)

PA Earth Exploration Vehicle;

(Note: Another early build. There was a story that went with this about a "Lifeship" returning to an Earth smashed by asteroids after a multi-generation voyage at near-light speed, so some 100's of 1,000's of years after the event, & having to re-colonise the planet with its PA evolved fauna & flora.)

The wreck of the old Soviet cruiser MURMANSK (as well as the subsequent salvage operations)
always struck me as something from 20 years after WW3 ended.

Perfect solution for one of those old 1/700th waterline kits that's suffered damage over the years.

I've used the equivalent printer from Elegoo ans well as a larger printer. He should be wearing gloves and ventilating the print area, but otherwise, that's about the correct workflow.

I've putzed with tracked vehicle concepts, but the real things are so high maintenance
in comparison to wheeled-vehicles, plus they're slow and aren't suited to long distance
travel, that I've pretty much shelved them, except for maybe remnants of military/govt.
forces who have access to spares, or an organized group who took over such facilities
and have people who can do the work.

Wheeled vehicles make more sense for the average survivor scenario.

Doesn’t have to be military vehicles. Civilian cars and trucks would actually be more plentiful. Big and fuel hungry trucks or reliable fuel sipping cars? Mount a .30 cal on the edge of the sun roof? Or strip it down and stay on the run ahead of the crazies? Do they make a kit of a smart car?
Here’s a fire truck I converted for a zombie apocalypse theme build on another channel.

Thou preacheth to the choir, as my shoulder muscles involuntarily ache every time I see someone talking about purchasing a tank 'for fun' but in Buzzbomb's case, in a world where logistics have been severely attrited 'light' armor (like BMPs) would likely become the sustainable MBT. File this under the One Eyed Man being king in the world of the blind.

I've mentioned the Israeli nuclear powered laser gatling armed Centurions from the TEXAS ISRAELI WAR OF 1999 in other threads.

Within that novel (written in 1974) the Texas Armored forces included a substantial number of reconstituted antique gate guards (Stuarts and Shermans and the like).  So imagine an M5 with a non-standard (but maintainable) diesel or gasoline rat-rodded into the engine compartment* and a .50 M2 Browning replacing the demilitarized 37mm main gun (for which ammunition is rare anyway).

* Fun fact - the Yugoslavians kept their M36 Tank Destroyers running with T55 engine packs, long after the Ford GAAs gave up the ghost.

Another post apocalyptic issue will be with fuel and petroleum products, like rubber. Vehicle tires will wear out, and mining old tire piles and landfills for "raw materials" will be energy intensive; tires are very dirty fuel and while they can be devucanized, it requires a bit of technology. So solid rubber composite tires or wood wheels. I can see a Tesla on oxcart wheels...

Engines would be the easy part with tracked vehicles, it’s the gearboxes, final drives, suspension
and track parts that’d become a maintenance issue, basically all of the motive components other
than the engine.

Yes and no. "All of the above" are supply issues, but there's also a reason that power packs where specifically designed as time went on with quick disconnects (because of their finite life spans).

There's actually maintenance matrixes that predict how long subcomponents are supposed to last, by mileage and hours. BTDT.

Yeah, all well and good in a set situation with a supported logistics supply chain, but that isn't very
likely to be the reality in a post-Apocalyptic scenario.

Some dystopic architecture ...

The jumbo-shanty is meant to be a vision of a future Lagos (I think). Not exactly sure what the point of this artwork is/was but it seems to fit here.

The other is dystopic architectural vision is a real project - Top Tower in central Prague. CNN described the proposed 135 m Top Tower as "a planned project that looks like an oil tanker crashed into a office block". That crashed oil tanker would be a 'rusted', skeletal outline acting rather like a flying buttress (perhaps explaining relatively quick construction time?). The oil tanker's framework also supports sections of 'living wall'.

Construction of Top Tower was schedule to begin this year (for completion in 2024) but I'm not sure if the project was ever approved.

Bobba Fett (&, now, the Mandalorian) have struck me, at times, as being somewhat Ma.K-ish. ;)

It would have been difficult to pull off well in the original films, especially the first,
and would have added a huge workload for the stop-motion crew.

Nice one GTX. Great platform and perfect to defend your own Oil well installation.

Was it Walking Dead or perhaps Z Nation that had a Combine Harvester go through a horde of Zombies ? Sure I have seen it on one of the genre shows.

Something recently occurred to me, the Mad Max films are set in Australia, and following
the first are set in the outback, yet I don't recall any indigenous characters or reference to
their tens of thousands of years of history on the continent living in a pre-industrial society.
Indeed the films make it look like everything is an empty wasteland.

You'd think that with "Western" technological society in collapse that the survivors might
look to them for pointers, of course that doesn't mean they'd necessarily get any aid, for
multiple reasons, but based on the culture I'd think it possible. Although some might find
it amusing to watch the white folks flailing about trying to keep their machine world going.

These days I think it would be equally hard for the Australian indigenous to survive.  The notion that they are still able to rely on the 'skills' of their ancestors is a fantasy.

I didn't state that everyone would survive or that all would be able to fall back on the past,
however there are still those with knowledge - which has been increasing amongst indigenous
groups throughout the "English" colonized world as they reclaim their languages and cultures,
which weren't completely eliminated despite the best efforts of the colonizers. Even a basic
knowledge would help. Personally speaking, I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand as a fantasy.

However, what I stated is still true, the lack of indigenous characters in the film is striking
and a revealing oversight.

I really like these Soviet combine harvesters. There's something quite atompunk about them. I remember a series of pics featuring an abandoned lot of these things. Half a dozen or more of these harvesters in various states of disrepair, sitting in the Russian countryside. Pics were taken in quite gloomy, foggy circumstances. The harvesters kinda looked like zombies themselves.
Have to see if I can find the pics again. Should be in one of the many inspiration folders.

"This is what happens when you use Fusion Weapons without prior testing"

Elaboration on the project -
https://blog.bricsys.com/top-tower-prague-a-truly-weird-building/

Potential background -

Dateline xx August 2025, Taiwan Strait: A Republic of China chartered tanker attempting to run the People's Liberation Army Navy blockade of Taiwan was hit with an unknown weapon Wednesday morning. Witnesses reported a blinding flash of lightning and the tanker's immediate disappearance.

At precisely the same time, Taipei 101 (Taipei World Financial Center) was struck by wreckage the same size and shape at the chartered tanker. While still obscured by heavy smoke, it appears that this wreckage was fused with the building.

Rescue efforts are ongoing.

The government of the Republic of China has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations. Beijing has denied any knowledge of the incident.
