Title: Massy Fergusson 20 Farm Tractor – ‘Renovation time’
Post by: tiking on June 21, 2021, 08:05:40 PM
I had bought this 1/24 scale MF20 a long time ago. It's been stashed away waiting for the right moment to decide on what I was going to do with it. Now I have. Will be adding a few more details here and there, which will not distract from the overall look.

That looks very real, I'd almost think you were using a shrink ray.

Just a quick lube & oil change, mate. She'll be right! ;D

Thanks guys. It probably does only need a lube and oil change. :)

Yeah, definitely using the shrink ray again!
I have to ask, how do you do all that rust? It’s perfect!
Awesome build, as always!!!

Thank you. It's simple.

1. Base color
2. mig pigments
3. spray a dull coat on the pigments, after drying. This is where some of the real magic happens. Both have a chemical reactions that produces certain reaction that produces odd whitish discoloration, like the whitish corrosive areas at the back.
4. some Tamiya black panel solutions in various areas, to give the rust some depth.
5. some real dust here and there.
6. some engine oil solutions at the areas that require them.

You really need to record a series of shots (or video even) of how you miniaturise the items or do the photoshop wonders do your builds and especially the weathering.

Will try and see if I can fix something.

Terrific work.

Where did you get the base model from ?
Heller did a Ferguson TE-20 and a much later MF tractor, but I cannot using my simple google-ful, find a 35 kit. I am intrigued with the source of that

Sorry for the misinformation. You're right. Its a TE20. Now, I have no answer why I wrote 35 but it was definitely not intentional. My bad.

No problems. Being a tractor fan, I was getting quite excited. My fathers entire working life was with Ferguson/Massey-Ferguson plus working in the spare parts dept was my first real job. They make up into interesting models. In this day of 3D anything, there will be one out there somewhere. Another workhorse of that breed is the 135 model which would be nice as well.

Still most excellent work in any case

Yes, that would be fascinating. Also good would be hearing about your diorama decision-making choices - they are brilliant

I am working out something. I've never done a tutorial video. Its always a time consuming project but I will give it a try. It will take some time to find out how to film it. I only have my phone camera.

Wonderful work yet again!  Very lifelike. Is your farm even a farm without a scene like this somewhere on your compound?  ;D I swear they're ubiquitous here in central Germany. It seems farmers are required by law to have a scene like this or risk losing grants/subsidies. Some dilapidated old shack with pieces of equipment that no one has bothered to move for dozens of years. Usually thickly overgrown with stinging nettle.

Seeing the tractor without the rear tires and the axle exposed that way.... half-track conversion? A bogey like on an M2/M3 half-track, converted in such a way that it could be powered by the regular drive-train. You see some modern versions from time to time, but maybe on an older tractor?

EDIT: Looks like they had the same thought before (damn, why do I only have the good ideas after someone else has had them?).

A Deutz F1L514 51 tractor with a Hülle Ansteckraupe. Hülle seems to be the name of the manufacturer. Ansteckraupe translates to "attaching/detachable track drive". Apparently this sort of track was commercially available and not just a home-brew one-off.
The track links look very familiar. Panzer II?
