Title: Tim Fleet's Hydrotomic Gyrofoil
Post by: Dr. YoKai on August 03, 2019, 07:45:21 AM
RIght now, it's just some parts -

and a concept.

Tim Fleet was one of the three major adversaries of the SInister Dr. Yo's Sekrit Yo Navy; the inevitable boy genius.
Along with his Rotodiver, SubRocket, and Psychopompic confuser, the Hydrotomic Gyrofoil failed to thwart many of the Dr.'s
 science piratical schemes.

Welcome aboard, Doc!

I see the ships of the Sekrit Yo Navy are still too classified to model ... I can live with that! ;)

Looking forward to what comes forth. 8)

I've added some pipes to the engines, placed the retractable foil on the hull, and given the whole a shot of primer to fimnd the
places that need a bit of PSR.

There are  some Sekrit Yo Navy projects underway ( or under weigh, if you like ) but both were already either well started, or
all bu finished before the start of the GB. But a quick teaser for their eventual appearance would not go amiss... ;)

The hydrofoil looks awesome! It can use the fin to slice open enemy ships, too...

Great use of a Triebfluegel! It took me a while to figure out what the donor kit was. It that one of your resin conning towers?

Well, You'll need to find a time machine as well - all of these were built back in the early to mid 1960's.  ;)

Thanks - sorry it's taken me so long to get working on the Savannah - I put alclad on the reactor two or three years ago, but
hung up on the prospect of lights, and the foil shapes. Still not entirely satisfied with them, but for the moment, it's pushing along
The Triebflugel is the old Huma kit - it got knocked off a shelf once too often, and by that time the attachment points for the rotor
wings looked like small anthills ( mounds of superglue ) so it went to the spares box. You know how I like the Winnans props, so... ;)

Thanks for all the kind words, colleagues!

It's good to see the Savanna is at least not sitting in a box.  The tribflugel would make a good Winnans attack ship...

Which 1:48th scale Lindberg kits were the source of your turbo-jet engine shapes? :)
Title: Re: Tim Fleet's Hydrotomic Gyrofoil
Post by: Dr. YoKai on August 07, 2019, 09:59:18 PM
The engines are from the X-3 kit. ( Which will eventually form the body of Dr. Yo's Red Swordfish)
Title: Re: Tim Fleet's Hydrotomic Gyrofoil
Post by: Jeffry Fontaine on August 08, 2019, 12:55:57 AM
That Lindberg turbo-jet shape was included in many of the 1:48th scale kits produced by Lindberg.  Still have several in the spare parts bag full of unwanted jet engine shapes.

The base is two pieces of scrap plexiglass, one given a rough brushing of sea blue before being glued to the top slab, which
was given a layer of water effects. I'm going to attempt a spray effect coming off the foli this coming weekend.

Colleagues, Friends - thank you for kind words. The spray effect isn't as effective as I'd like - but for a first attempt, I think it shows some promise. The photos show what I was doing.

 (https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/70387244_10219183539848878_5084784074900373504_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_oc=AQnLmkoLvcEIgrUhLPrIRGJG8wFQk9Lpcx3O3zLlfVkFP3QjWlTB3WwzC69sBYgDe_Z5Lb7TIfVg98a2_NuquPFU&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=d68006702d0e2b239b70d6c4179f19a7&oe=5E09245E)

As you saw in the earlier photos, the foil rests on the plane of the base, with the tinted water effects buiilt up around it. The cut piece of acetate, warped a bit over a candle flame, was hazarded across the trailing edge.

(https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/70283034_10219183539928880_1816478507136450560_n.jpg?_nc_cat=107&_nc_oc=AQlB_a1IOVOraN94g1jsKkN2GT_hiBI1va8cwzIA_m_lb5a1YMZjK39GAw3s53uwLbN-8VIXm-FnZUlyjkcHahQG&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=0fbae07da80901c7866be608c7ede181&oe=5DF38544)

Test fit

(https://scontent-dfw5-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/70513668_10219183540328890_1312500310115090432_n.jpg?_nc_cat=106&_nc_oc=AQnn2LbyAcrk9GxP2rnJwsDKEZJrDrVFhBc3M7rC8bdtvScqr0vGzVq4TEO-K2edr0KoK2QP7SNNyNXxWAggKkT8&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-2.xx&oh=ddb955842a808774e2c326cb9d06a00f&oe=5DF59745)

And a roll of 'cotton' gauze glued to the leading edge. I raked water effects across the top and bottom of the acteate, but I'm afraid
my photoraphy skill aren't up to capturing the effect.

And you can view the finished product in the 'Completed' Thread. ;)
