1/32 PBY-5A Catalina is nearing its finish and is actually available for pre-order:

I am actually tempted to do a super detailed real world one of these...maybe even do as an open cutaway similar to this one in Pensacola:

Well, guess the car sits out in the elements now. The garage is the only display case big enough for this.

Oh, and I'd have to make it a strategic bomber.

The rhetorical question: How do you get the kit into the house or your possible future home, the garage, without the SWMBO finding out?
Title: Re: HPH Models
Post by: Kerick on October 14, 2014, 02:28:15 AM
She'll find it sooner or later, unless you never build it. And what would be the point of that?
The "beep-beep" of the truck backing up to deliver it would be a sure give away anyhow!

It will be a tad big. Should be about 1.28m long with a wingspan of around 64cm.

I bought us his 'n' hers new-tool Airfix 1/72 Tiger Moths - she likes Tiger Moths - for us to build together about a year ago and they're both still sitting in the stash, so I don't see her agreeing to a Valkyrie!

It still fits though most doors but what size vehicle will be needed to haul that thing to the model shows in one piece and not partially disassembled?

Pretty much have to have one just to marvel at it.  Need to do a price check first.

Built as 1/72:    243ft fuselage    345ft wing    70ft 1.5in height
Then to find however many 1/72 engines to fly it.
Runway, taxiway, parking apron, and hanger size would be civil engineering challenges !
How many hours would it take to fill the tanks ?

Wow, pretty cool. I'd like to get one to make a C-99 civil variant (Pan Am maybe) just to see people's heads explode.
But yeah, it's a bit expensive and I've nowhere to stash it.

Could also be a different way of accomplishing the FICON mission without messing with that trapeze; long time in the saddle for the fighter pilots, though.

Picture airborne diorama where models are on posts or hung by wires.  KB-36 refueling one - three B-10, B-17, B-24.  Fine display at model show.

Perhaps a "passing the torch" diorama with a KB-36 refueling a XB-52?
