Dodge Weapons Carrier, Power Wagon, M37, etc.
« on: October 25, 2013, 03:40:12 AM »
I, personally, have always loved this vehicle family, so I thought I'd start a topic for them.  If I didn't have a day job, I could sit here and post pictures of these all day.  I wouldn't mind owning one of these before I die.

Cheers,

Logan

I started this topic, however, because today I came across the object of my dreams.

I love the German 6x6 staff cars.  In fact, I like most dual rear-axle 6x6 vehicles in general.  I also love the whole Dodge 3/4-ton family, but especially the Command Car variant.

So, having said that, this is what I found today...

I did not know Dodge made 6X6,other than the 1.5 ton truck.

Yeah, I knew that, Zod.  I've got too many books on US softskins to think it was production.  Still very cool, though.

Do a 6X6 with a stretched 'woody' Power Wagon body.  ;D

... or a dual cowl phaeton body ala Packard or Duesenberg.  ;D

There's a great little film on the making of the 1950 film King Solomon's Mines that talks about the 7 Dodge trucks that MGM used to do all the filming in the interior of Africa.  Included among them were two Power Wagon buses for the actors and another Power Wagon for general utility.  They ended up covering 25,000 miles over just a few months and the entire repair bill for the whole fleet of 7 trucks at the end of filming was $238 USD!!!

I just love those pickup truks.  LOL!!!  My dad drove one of those WC63 types after D-day in Europe. There was a place here that had several of the weapons carriers, back when I was finishing high school. I tried to get him to get me one,for a father/son project ... But you know how that went. The same as trying to get him to buy me the XK-150 the guy down the street had.  "My butt still hurts from bouncing in that hard riding S.O.B." was all I got !  I think that six wheeled command car is interesting but it's something that somebody put together from parts, like the guy's on the original forum said.  I got everything needed to build one if anybody wants to do one, just HMU. Not really my kind of build.
I may be old but I'm not dead ... yet anyway ... !!!    And NO I did not know Richard III !!!!!!

Where is it located ? Looks like a version of fire-engine - reminds me of several similar odd conversions the Dutch did on Morris Quads in the late '40's.

Has a certain home built look to it. Are the round protrusions on the sides gun ports for anti zombie fire?

My son’s best friend’s grandfather found the troop carrier one at an old airport not far from me. Since it was an airport, no road salt allowed so the vehicle was in great condition. He was an old school body guy and he fixed it up right and painted it. It looks like new. His grandson has it now and he keeps it in a garage. At least it will stay in great shape.
