I have previously mused about the possible implications of the German submarine U-234 heading to Argentina instead of surrendering to USA in 1945.  This might offer some further inspiration for you on the Argentine front.

Reminds me of something from the novel I read years ago.  It was set in a post nuclear war USA and there was a mention of a Japanese FSW fighter by the author.  Apparently the Japanese were largely unaffected by the war and had moved in.
