Title: The Conquest of Space - Part Two: Destination Moon
Post by: Antonio Sobral on August 13, 2018, 02:54:14 AM
Hi guys!

With Part One done, it is time for the next logical step: Part Two ;)

So please see below my personal interpretation of an alternative Apollo mission.

Let us call it Dionysus 21 :)

The LUT and support is pretty much done.
The rocket still needs some retouching (re-engraving some lines and putty).

A nice touch would be some 1/500 figures to give some human dimension to the scene,
but since I have none, the problem is automatically solved :)

Thanks for watching!

This is going to be awesome!
Where did you get the launch tower framework? Preiser has a set of 1/500 figures that shouldn't be too expensive: Preiser 89500 (https://www.preiser-figuren.de/preiser-89500-1:500-passanten-unbemalt-30-st.-preiser-89500,art-18631) it's listed as unavailable at Preiser, but it should be available elsewhere.

Given your bill of materials Antonio, I would say the is your pen-ultimate build!  ;D

Wernher would be proud of you.

Hi guys

Sorry about this long "interregnum", but spare time for modeling has not been very abundant, unfortunately.

But I finally managed to do most of the painting work.

A few brush touches here and there, rest of the "population" added, and it's finished.

Shortly, I hope :)

Thanks for watching!

Wow that looks like a million bucks, Antonio!

I saw a lot of those moon shots live on TV, but we only had a black & white set so it's great to see your colorful version.

Wow Tony this is amazing !

The detail on the gantry is stunning and the use of biro ends is inspired, I'm impressed.

Nice one !

And after a feew weeks of procastrination, I finally managed to finish it.

Just some painting corrections and gluing all the figures in place, et voilá :)

The saga will continue (soon, I hope!) with the next episode: Part 3 - "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

Nicely done, Antonio!

The saga will continue (soon, I hope!) with the next episode: Part 3 - "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

Are we going with something from the book or inspiration from the title? ???

Oh yes, very good Antonio

Mind you, coming from a steel fabricator background, I don't think I would have liked trying to put in those bolts while assembling the launch tower. They're as big as your figurines   :o :o :o    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now that's cool.

Gonna need appropriate space suits and music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGHCoVzqtk).

The figures really add a sense of scale! Great job! I'm borrowing your idea of using pens as a source for rocket nozzles!

Beautiful final work, there; utterly gorgeous, even.  Does the tower stay in that location when the rocket launches or is it moved away a sufficient distance?

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments!

The tower remains in the same location, Saturn V style :)

Regarding the title of the future Part 3, no relation with the R. Heinlein's book title.
I just happen to be  fan of him, and really like the title.

I will  start the topic very soon. Just gathering documentation and checking the Airfix Lunar Module kit for missing parts :)
