Title: Dams301's Profiles : SE.580
Post by: dams301 on March 19, 2013, 06:45:51 AM
Hello all,

Like I said in this thread ( http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2814.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2814.0) ), I'm new on this forum.
In parallel to my build, I make some profiles. Here are those I make since August 2011 :

Maybe some more F-35s?  Say in Tunisian, Libyan, Egyptian, Iraqi and Syrian markings.  Let's see just how far one can push this whole Arab Spring thing... 8)

Thanks for your comments  :D
More arabic F-35 ?? Why not, I'll try it.

For the F-35, I'll make the second one after the Mirage F-1CR, normally.

For the moment, I'm thinking about an UAE C-160 Transall (for a Revell). Here where I am :

There is still some work to finalize it ;)

G'day Dams301
I very much like your C-160 Transall profile!!
Is there any chance of one of these baby's in the colours of the Australian Army Aviation's camouflage scheme (see pictures)

Thanks M.A.D

For your idea of australian Transall, why not ?? I'll be thinking about it in the future ;)

For the moment, I work on my next project for an anstralian Rafale C this time :

The drawing is not very good because it's only a modification of one of this drawing :

I'll redraw it when I'll have my new mouse  :P

^ Urrrggghhh! A friend has one of those. I did a profile while staying round his and it's bloody hard work getting the cursor where you want! Give me a cheap optical USB £4 job any day of the week! Feel free to call me old-fashioned!

Great thread btw!  :)

I already have an cheap optical mouse (delivred with my Asus portable computer) and after one year, it make sometimes double click instead of simple click... It tends to get irritated  :icon_nif:

I apply a southern cross on the tail fin :

I was thinking of a Finnish one too... Joe's description sounds good, maybe the colors need a little adjustment ... or maybe it could be done in bare metal look like early Finnish Drakens and MiG-21s.

I'm not quite sure if it should have refuelling probes, though. Depends on what kind of alternative timelines you go for.
Title: Re: Dams301 Profiles : Mirage F1CR
Post by: tsrjoe on October 18, 2013, 04:36:10 PM
natural metal sounds nice too (just like the early Mirage F.1 prototypes with their anodised aluminium finish) would look pretty sweet on the later development  8)

cheers, Joe

Actually, I thought you'd use fewer colors. That would be more in line with what was used in real life, until the Finnish Air Force went gray.

I've got an idea for the back story.

UK and France sign a deal in the early 60s to co-develop and deploy almost all the aircraft currently in design. This leads to French TSR2s and Harriers,  RAF and FAA Mirages.

Hmm, perhaps Breguet teaming with Hawker on the Harrier with other NATO members coming in?  This assumes that DeGaulle does not completely withdraw France from NATO.

Hi guys,

Long time since my last profiles...

Since I have less motivation for real build, I started a new profile for a kit I have in stock : 1/72th Unicraft Dewoitine SE-580.
This build will not be easy (here an example (http://maquette72.free.fr/amis/Gaetan/2011_05_SE580/index05.php)) so before starting it, I'm thinking to improve the base kit and remold it for my personnal use (yes, I like the shape of this aircraft).

No more speach, here my first profile of this aircraft. More will certainly come, so if you have some idea I'll take it  :)

You probably see one big problem with this aircraft: a pilot bailing out would be ingulfed by the air intake with probably much damage for his health or life... So the solution (without eating ground things like a P-51 or F-16) may be a zwilling layout: port fuselage = pilot, no engine no propeller, no air intake, no fin (safe bailing out), starboard fuselage = no pilot, 1 engine, 1 propeller, 1 air intake, 1 fin. Will you try? If you won't, may I?

EDIT: generals may order it as a single-engined fighter with efficient free nose like a P-38/Mosquito without pusher propeller (hated by pilots wanting to be able to bail out safely)...

I can send you the original Illustrator file if you want (or another format). Just need your mail by PM  ;)

I received it, thanks a lot! I don't know when I will be able to "work" on it (play with it) :icon_music:

Well, I succeeded in drawing it at last! Thanks again Dams! Your source was marvelous :-*
(Maybe I will try to colour it to feature the different fuselages: yellow port, blue starboard, green tailplane)

Unfortunately, this Dewoitine winning design was not ordered, that is why France lost the war in 1940 ???

Here is it, with colours for our friend ericr...
As a pilot, would you prefer to bail out from this D-580Z (safely) or from the SE-580 (into the air-intake or against the fin)...?
Thanks again, dams! ;)

I hadn't the time to respond to your mail that you already work on it  ;D

Great job Tophe. Glad to help you in this work  :)

Thanks again Dams. Do you realise how good a fighter that D-580Z was/would have been? with a powerful nose like the P-38/P-61 but a single engine and single pilot, like the XP-54/55/56 but with safe bailing out (no pusher propeller requiring exploding blades or ejector seat)...
I went back in January 1940 (my father was 5 years old but I was 25 years old already) to give (not sell) this design but it was refused, as the French deciders were afraid of asymmetry, so heretic! They preferred to loose the war (the rest is History)... ;)

EDIT: yes I was 25 years old as you are 25 years old, this is obvious as we are just one, you and I, on this combined D-580Z project (it is the morning now, and I take my psychiatric pill, don't worry)... ;)

In June 1945, the SNCSE design bureau presented a tourism derivative of the D-580Z, the AG-580:

I see that you having some fun with my drawing  8)

Yes, thanks a lot for this big amount of fun! ;D
As a return, I made your dams301 name part of Aviation history! on (at the temporary end of) my site about asymmetric aircraft http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/Asymm_addition.htm (http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/Asymm_addition.htm)

Next, what will we do?
Do you want me to send you my cdr file in ai format? (for you to play also with the zwilling idea...)

I imagine extra ones, at least:
SE-580Z-2: with port fuselage à-la-Mustang (scoop under fuselage) and starboard fuselage à-la-SE580 (scoop above fuselage)
SE-580Z-3: with pilot on the starboard fuselage (normal SE-580) and pilotless port fuselage (with engine & propeller moved rearward)
SE-580Z-4: like P-38, with free nose of the Z and port fuselage/boom like the Z-3 with engines moved again rearward (for the free nose to be seen on the profile)
etc. ;)

Ohh... I have my name as credit on your site. Thanks 8)
I'll watch this as soon as I can  :)

Thanks for the proposition, but I'm going to pass. I'm working on an another project and not enough time so I had to put the SE.580 in "stand-by" for the moment  ;)

All right, I will play alone, no problem.
I think, anyway, that I will post the result here, as you are the source and my own pixel-topic is about slanting views, or... do you prefer that I start a new topic with profiles of mine? Just tell me and I will follow your choice, dams.

Do as you want Tophe. I see no problem that you continue to post here or in a new topic. It's your creation, I only gave the basis  ;)

Thanks. If you don't mind, I will post here the 3 or 5 remaining SE-580Zs, thanking you again and again, and again... ;)
I think later I will make like the SE-580Z-2 a similar F-82 and a similar P-51Z for my Mustang topic at whatifmodelers, not here.
(If the next one of yours is also an aircraft of 1938-46, I would be interested to play with it as well... if you permit)

The SE-580Z-2 was twin-engined but single-seater, with safe bailing out (thanks to asymmetry):

Excellent Tophe.

Why a small tail on this one ??

(If the next one of yours is also an aircraft of 1938-46, I would be interested to play with it as well... if you permit)

Don't know yet what will be the next one for the moment. The project I talked earlier is an IRL one  ;)

Why a small tail on this one ??
The technical reason for this is: artistic fantasy... ;) (or craziness of mine) :(

But my favorite is the following couple: a symmetric twin-engined P-38-like and an asymmetric single-engine Bv-141-like, with exactly the same port profile...

Sounds good to me  ;D

The Z-4 (P-38 like) is my favourite for the moment  :D

Thanks again!

SE-580Z-2: with port fuselage à-la-Mustang (scoop under fuselage) and starboard fuselage à-la-SE580 (scoop above fuselage)
Indeed, North-American found this idea "interesting" in the opposite direction: adding a fuselage with scoop above fuselage to their fuselage with scoop Under fuselage:

As I had finished my project SE-580Z/Z-2/3/4, I thought I had finished here, then... I told myself: "this SE-580 vectorial playing has been funny while... uh, the SE-580 basis was not enough streamlined for my taste (in aesthetics)" but... why not improving that? I did it on the Zwilling 580Z basis into a half-streamlined SE-580Z-5 (to compare source and 'improved')...:

I  have read on the Web that the Dewoitine factory did not become SNCASE but SNCAM, sorry. Here is another '580 from there (yes, zwilling: see there is no external tailplane):
