I saw the Venezuelan one a few days ago and I was just hoping they'd do Indonesia - and now they have!

An aside story; mrs kitnut's Dad was in the REME and was posted for a while in the Recovery Unit. He told me he was called out one day to go clean up some mess. Apparently, a prototype Scorpion the Army was testing had been driving very fast down one of the 'M' roads the UK has, when it suddenly shed it's tracks --- the following mayhem cause considerable damage to public vehicles in the vicinity ---  Afterwards the Scorpions were fitted with a governor to restrict their speed.

I knew they were fast, but... fast enough for a motorway? That’s pretty good. Unless it was the M25, I suppose....

Tempted to do a 90mm version in either Australian Marines scheme or even USMC scheme.  Aniother idea would be to do a Kiwi one as a subtle whiff to catch the unwary given the Kiwis did have Scorpions.

And just some random inspiration with a photo of a Kiwi Scorpion in the surf:

Scary fast, i well recall dad overtaking one on a back road near Salisbury (mustv been late 70's/early 80's) the chap on top gave a wave (me peering out looking over the vehicle) next we knew there was a roar behind us as the Scorpion overtook us in a cloud of dust and smoke at 50mph. I loved the little flashing indicator light as it pulled back into lane the chap in the turret grinning, definately made our day :)

Does anyone know when the last Universal Carriers left British service?  I wonder about a L6 Wombat fitted to one of them?

Post by: Old Wombat on January 19, 2021, 12:54:03 PM
Looks like they were being built until about 1960 but I don't know who by. The last mention of them in British service, that I could find, was with the BAOR in the 1950's.

I suppose I, too, should buy one ... Well ... Because! ;)

Yes, this has popped into my head as well after the demise of the Borgward with RCL.
Maybe an Oxford, but it would certainly fit the time period for the Cambridge type APC/Carrier

This almost looks like it could have been from somewhere on the WW2 Eastern front:

They weren't just used in the snow either:

I'm kind of interested in an Australian or perhaps NZ Army one...though the racing idea is still enticing too

I'm thinking of getting one of the civilian versions and one of the BAT carriers. They look like they'd have all sorts of Whiffery goodness.

I think they're also seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUTs2QLHtH0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUTs2QLHtH0) "Terror in the Midnight Sun". Starting in this scene: https://youtu.be/NUTs2QLHtH0?t=917 (https://youtu.be/NUTs2QLHtH0?t=917) . There's also this scene: https://youtu.be/QFSxYQ2kESc?t=1020 (https://youtu.be/QFSxYQ2kESc?t=1020) which was cut from the US release. Barbara Wilson was hot enough to melt snow...

Scorpion Military Miniatures (https://www.scorpion-miniature-models.co.uk/shop) appears to be a entry into the aftermarket accessory field and specializes in British/United Kingdom subjects.

Brought to my attention thanks to a post on the "whats new" page at HyperScale (https://www.hyperscale.com/what's.htm) with a link to the original post at Missing-Lynx (http://www.missing-lynx.com/) to announce some recent product enhancements for the Airfix Ferret armoured utility vehicle.

These products can be viewed at this link: Missing-Lynx > Scorpion Military Miniatures > 14 Update and Conversion Sets for Airfix Ferret Scout Car (http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/britain/smm3564wreviewpb_1.html)

You can view the rather extensive list of SMM products at this link: Scorpion Military Miniatures (https://www.scorpion-miniature-models.co.uk/shop)
