X3 Spaceliner - Finished !
« on: February 09, 2021, 01:23:31 AM »
Hi All

Bought this one some time ago, it's not my usual scale but it was cheap !

by Robomog, on Flickr

As usual I have only a sketchy half arsed idea about this but i intend to turn this into an Orion style space liner.  Time will tell

More when it happens............

1/144, or smaller scale, spaceliner for SSTO operations?  That could be very interesting indeed.

The Orion style space liner sound like a great idea (maybe call it the Rigel or the Betelgeuse). I think the molds for that kit were made by Homo Erectus, 1.5 million years ago. It's great fodder for non X-3 builds!

Hi all

A little update.

The engines are installed and the gaps left in the fuselage have been prepped for filler

by Robomog, on Flickr9

The air intake has been sealed and extended,  the fuselage at this point curves in so lt will need to be filled but it should produce a nice looking triple curve.

by Robomog, on Flickr

I'm still undecided where to place the control deck, either up front or somewhere around the tail

Coming along. The exhaust bells look really good. Parts of a pen or aftermarket turned jobbies ?

Hi all

A bit more progress, the body is together but it is not a good fit, nor is the nose so quite a lot of filler.

Also decided to put the control deck on the tail

by Robomog, on Flickr

Once this is all rubbed down its greeblie time !!!!

I've decided that this spaceship is the equivalent of a frontier aircraft a sort of Jack of all trades so a passenger/freighter hybrid, I'm going to keep it to roughly 1/144 scale.   It's going to get some external tanks and maybe some external storage  but at this stage any thing could happen with the details because it's all going to be made up on the spot  ;)

Thanks for looking.............

Thanks buzz

A bit more progress

Theres going to be some more greebly work but I thought I would show you the mockup of the external freight, these are the space equivalent of shipping containers in various sizes.

by Robomog, on Flickr

The bulk of the PSR is done now just the odd pit, dip or pinhole to sort,  time to start designing the decals,  I do very few airline builds so any 1/144 decals in my stash are old and a bit suspect  ::)

Hi all

Minor update.........

Turns out I havent added much to it in the way of greeblies, decided to keep it sleek and  simple.  Also sourced some bits to rig the shipping containers.

by Robomog, on Flickr

Shown here on its spray rig, should be entering the spray shop soon

Thanks for looking............

Another very cool concept - reminds me of the old atomic-powered bomber kit (also from Lindberg?) and I love the extra work you're putting in.
