I love your spaghetti plane all red with with tomato ketchup! :-* ;)
My (5-year-old) son calls it a wonderful snake-plane :-* and I do admit this is not food at all but a living organism able to move by iteself, and fast! Congratulations again! ;)

aha, I do have a snake (in plastic, an animal figurine) in my "qtash", and some day I am going to do something with it ...

wait and see ...

Your son has an excellent inspiration

but I tried another configuration with a Noorduyn Norseman, where it would be more about spraying the land

I guess the pull-tab on the nose is the big change there. Otherwise she looks pretty much like a stock-standard Norseman  ;D

As an aerodynamics expert (I have the diploma clearly in my mind, this is proof enough), I disagree strongly: ericr's model is a great improvement for speed, dicreasing drag very much, no? (the frontal area is a million times below the one of a standard Norseman, at least the scale 1 machine...)

and now for a different kind of foam :

champagne!

with Supersabre wings, as in the other examples before

(well, kind of, actually a plastic fake champagne bottle, but the right size and scale)

Cheers!

musical hybrid : B727 and flute Re: hybrids aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #157 on: March 25, 2015, 09:28:04 PM »
thanks!

and now for something completely different :

in an old topic, where I explored the musical crossing of a Chengdu F-7E and a flute

http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=3951.0

one comment was that it was reversed w.r.t. airflow in the flute ...

So I had a new try, with another flute, and a 1/125 Heller B727 which has just the right length and quite the same diameter :

With speed and aerodynamic airflow coming in, the yellow one would make music during all flight, enjoying passengers wonderfully... ;)

thanks all :-)

and now for something more in line with the otriginal topic of this thread : aircraft/animals hybrids.
Most of the time I give wings to animals, this time I consider snout :
here is a lion (actually a kind of 3D jigsaw puzzle) with the face (cockpit and front) of a Noorduyn Norseman :

I have a few other fuselages in my spare heap, so I am looking for welcoming animals ... ideas are bubbling

Another nice one from your wild, wonderful world of aircraft animals, eric!

Sure looks sweet in that golden yellow.

You should do a polar bear version next. Perfect for the Noreseman.

Dare I suggest:

Beaver on a Beaver
Otter on an Otter
Caribou on a Caribou

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

they sound good, and the bear as well indeed : all these animals must be findable in the figurine dept. with brands like Schleich or Plastoy and others

There are too many for just me : please have a try, you will see how funny it is to design and build such hybrids : the very same problems as usual when you are trying to fit the nose of X with the fuselage of Y as wella as the tail of Z, or when you want to avoid a tail-sitter by putting wieghts inside ...

Let's make it a group build !  :o

My 5-year old son and myself do love very much your lion-airplane! or lion-machine? is it flying? (!? what do I say! a "flying-lion", I am so stupid, sorry! a lion with a propeller and windscreen is absolutely normal, only what-if in plain yellow color, but a "flying lion" would be crazy! sorry...)

I love our various hybrid.  Given the nickname the ground crews had/have for the MiG-25, "The Flying Vodka Bottle", might we see a hybrid of MiG-25 surfaces with a suitable bottle?

Thanks, I particularly appreciate the appreciation of a 5-year old : truth comes from the mouth of children  ;)

Still on the animal/aircraft side, but actually nearly plain OOB (but in my favorite and usual colors) :
from Hasegawa, the Shuttle and 747 in egg-form !
(when I saw it coming out, I just couldn't resist)

speaking about Shuttles ... here is an hybridization of a 1/144 Shuttle and booster with a Revell 1/16 VW Beetle :
the sizes fit nicely, a trick was in keeping the doors openable ...

cheers,

VW shuttle is my favorite of your recent builds.
As much as they shouldn't, VW and boosters somehow go/work together in a strange way :)

thanks a lot!

the fit came nicely so it was a pleasure : a better skilled modeler could do it in an even more convincing way, e.g. with airlines markings

Ar234 and beer Re: hybrids aircraft/animals and others
« Reply #174 on: April 06, 2015, 05:06:37 PM »
and for something completely different :

in the series of bottle with wings, I stumbled upon this estonian beer, and its stunningly angulous bottle :

and I found out that its length was quite the same as an 1/48 Ar234 I had (a sales at cheap price), and the fit was not bad : the rest of the Ar234 is used for another project, animal-wise, you will see it soon ...   >:D

Also, in previous experiments with bottles, I received reactions about the propulsive potential of foam, although the bottle was turned forwards, so this time I am trying it out the other way around :

cheers!
