Go 229B Nightfighter
« on: April 06, 2021, 01:51:19 AM »
The older PM kit of the two seater variant of the Horten wing is not a great kit, but it's the only one available. This won't be much more than OOB - though I could not resist starting with a bit of spurious but hopefully convincing, interior detail. I also have the much better Revell/Germany kit of the single seater, and was at first going to use details from that kit to enhance this one, mainly the landing gear, but I balked at adding a main wheel bay, and just decided, to, ah, wing it. The only real extra will be the use of the X-4 missiles from the Dragon
P.1101 kit. (Because the idea of a wire guided missile fired from a single seater just seems ridiculous to me.) Anyway, here's the weekend's progress.

(Probably should have cropped this first - the two items at the top are a Punkerpan, and the fuselage masters (I hope) for an
eventual vacuform/resin scratch of the BFW N 1 triplane.)

The 'engines' will be barely visible shapes on either side of the cockpit and through the exhaust cones, so they won't get too much detail
beyond some pipes and frames.

Not using a cockpit tub required a little alignment testing and fitting, but nothing too taxing. The kit seats were cut at and filed down to serve
as armored backs for seats knicked from...I think one of the early MPM 262 kits, along with something that I cobbled together for the Radar scope and the instrument panel. All this got primered late in the day, and I did have a lawn to mow...  ;)

Thanks! Good luck with the Revell-like all the Luft '46 stuff they put out in the 90's, it's a beautiful kit.

It's more of a prairie, honestly, but keeping it trimmed a bit makes it less attractive to snakes...

Craig - Those enhancements look good - I planned the same mods you're doing to the PM doubled seater.

Getting there - closed up and primered, and the pesky little X-4s I borrowed from the Dragon Me P.1101.

The cockpit came out ok - I may try and tack in some side consoles, and buckles for the seat belts, but about all that's left is
paint.(And a little scribing. And...) It will be going on a stand.

And in the home stretch - I'll put some completion shots in the finished thread.

that scheme is interesting and appears to work quite well for a night fighter.
