1/35 Post Apoc figures
« on: June 12, 2020, 11:30:41 AM »
I converted some Evolution Miniatures 1/35 German WW2 figures into post apoc.

For this figure I cut the face out and replaced it with a Live Resin M17 gas mask.

I used Trumpeter woodland BDU camo decals that were kindly supplied by a friend. I primed the figure first then gloss coated it before applying the decals.

After the camo decals settled I gloss coated the whole figure again.

This one was converted using a Live Resin PMG-2 Russian gas mask.

I also used the same Trumpeter woodland BDU camo decals for the jacket. The pants are also decals but from Peddinghaus. It is German Fallschirmjager camo pattern.

I added a Tank SVD rifle. I cut some tape into thin strips and wrapped it around the rifle to simulate camouflage wrapping.

Again, once the decals were settled I applied gloss coat over them.

First one completed. I added a Dragon AK rifle. I weathered the figure then flat coated it.

Second one also completed. I added a backpack from a different figure that I messed up so recycled it. Also lightly weather and flat coated.

Well that is very nice.
I have never tried this sort of decaling on figures, they appeared to go down extra well, so great work

Great job, Ramba! 8)

Are you going to do any detailing on the masks, to make them stand out a bit more? ???

Thank you! Using the decals requires a lot of patience. I use Micro Sol to get the decals to settle down into the grooves and over the creases. The Trumpeter decals laid down nicely with the Micro Sol. Some areas required to put a pin hole to get the decals to settle in though.

Thanks! The gas masks are flat black so not much else I can do unless I paint them a different color. Also just bad angle I think of the camera flash to not highlight the gas masks. I will try a different angle with the camera to see if I could get the gas masks more visible. The only other thing I might do is to paint the goggles with Tamiya clear red on the Russian ones and Tamiya clear green on the U.S. ones. My Tamiya clear green is about 30 years old and is kind of syrupy now so I have to order a new bottle. I do have some Tamiya clear blue I could use instead.

I painted the goggle parts of the gas masks. I painted them silver first then used Tamiya clear red and clear blue over that. The red is actually flat like the blue but showed up a lot shinier than it really is due to the camera flash.

The camo decals and the paint job on the pats look outstanding!

You can revive the syrupy Tamiya clear acrylics with either a few drops of alcohol or water.

Thank you!

I did try some Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner but it didn't work. I have a new bottle on the way now.

Don't know if it's the lens colours or a slightly different angle but I'm seeing a bit of texture in the masks, now, too!

Thanks everyone! I like the post apoc figures as you can mix and match items to your liking. They pretty much scrounge up what they can find so the figures won't be specific to anything really.

I will be adding more post apoc figures to this thread instead of starting a new one for each post apoc figure. This will be my official post apoc figure thread.

Here is another 1/35 figure I finished over the weekend. I actually finished this one last year but I was doing a few touchups here and there and I dropped it and stepped on it. I broke the arms/hands and rifle and the backpack snapped off. I was going to toss the figure but then decided to save it and redo it.

As usual, I cut the original face out or in this case I cut the original gas mask out. I didn't like the look of the original gas mask. I replaced it with a Live Resin PMG-2 Russian gas mask.

I added a Dragon RPK rifle but modified it with a PK butt stock. Bottom rifle is standard RPK, middle one is RPK modified with the PK butt stock and top one is the PK machine gun. Second photo shows where I got the idea from and shows the real RPK with the PK butt stock.

Here is the redone figure. It still needs a few touchups here and there. As you can see I missed a few spots so have to go back over them with the flat coat so those sparkly spots don't show up. I used the original backpack on a different figure so I used a Tamiya Alice Pack on this one. The original backpack for this figure was reused on the sniper figure a few posts above, the one with the SVD rifle.

Thanks!

I also added an SVD butt stock to another RPK rifle. The top one is a regular RPK and the bottom one is the modified RPK with the SVD butt stock.

The modified RPK is going on this figure. I had to modify the arms and hands to grip the RPK but it still isn't gripping it correctly.

The shading on the uniform looks great - is that just a black wash?
