Very nice work. Maybe Amazon will need a few.

BUDD is a "wiser" drone.
So much scratch building without it being messy.

Beautiful!!  It really looks like it was developed from some of the Nord designs that came out of France in the 1950s.

Guys thanks for the comments, very much appreciated.

Steve, great minds think alike, this build was originally intended to be an Amazon drone but things got slightly out of hand, had to hand it over to the military !

Elmayerle, well spotted the turbofans were influenced by the Nord 500

I like drones that have the props in ducts. I got that way after arriving at the scene soon after a guy had a glitch with a naked prop one. The ambulance crew was curious to see what caused his wounds.

Hi all,

AXOR - thanks for comment

Pertime - understand your views completely, back in  the day I fired up a model diesel engine by accident and put my hand through the prop trying to stop it. It hurt !

I was tempted to have the props 'naked' but realised it would then be  a head slicer like the Kaman Huskie.  It  looks better with turbofans anyway.

Kitnut - LOL 'flying brick'  Very appropriate, was tempted to name it but decided to stick with D2 (drone 2).

Dr. Yokai - thanks for your comment

An IC engine tends to stop when something substantial gets in the prop. Electrics want to keep turning until something overloads.

The guy I came across with posted a thread about it on a drone site. There's a short video (no blood or actual impact), a photo of his bandaged hand, and some technical discussion:

Some where on the side of the drone or cargo box needs to be a small sign proclaiming "This Budd's For You" :P

Hi Guys love these conversations

Pertime - get your point, watched the video - ouch !
The bigger the drone the nastier the bite.

From memory the prop that attacked my hand didn't stop, I had to lob a tea towel at it to shut it down then used same towel to staunch the blood flow. No permanent damage just some nasty cuts and dented ego.

Jeffery -  ROFL !  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D .  Hmmmm - watch this space.....

These days;  its realistic, not a SyFy-ish build.  Looks like next thing to come along soon.  Fine job with so much scratch work etc.

I have done this just for a giggle you can blame Jeffery Fontaine and GTX_Admin for putting stuff like this into my head

Think Beer, Think Barrel

20180107_161927 by Robomog, on Flickr

Got to use me circle cutter for the first time, basic skeleton and staves going on

20180107_161942 by Robomog, on Flickr

More staves, learnt a bit of the coopers art here I had to slightly curve the staves to fit properly

20180107_171458 by Robomog, on Flickr

All the staves are on

20180112_194527 by Robomog, on Flickr

Then the stand and carrying frame

20180112_204444 by Robomog, on Flickr

Next Come the metal bands or hoops

20180116_205634 by Robomog, on Flickr

.....and a bit of pressure

20180116_205823 by Robomog, on Flickr

The back end

The Completed barrel complete with pumps

Hang on somethings missing............
