Panther Ausf.F R/6 – MAN interim field mod **Finished**

Panther Ausf.F R/6 – MAN interim field mod

Concept, design and story by House of Queeg.

As an attempt to provide a heavier armed and amoured version to fufill an overwatch role in the medium tank companies, MAN provided a set of mix’n’match field modification kits to be added by the workshops as required. Although effective and able to engage and hit targets with accuracy out to 3km, the added weight taxed the chassis above it’s limit and reliability suffered acordingly. The vehicle shown, designated Panther Ausf.F R/6, has the full range of field mods fitted, which include the standard Henschel 8.8cm Kwk43 heavy turret, a Zeis 1.75m stereoscopic rangfinder, 60mm spaced armour and 2x 150ltr armoured “wing” tanks …..

The goal -

The victims -

Progess -

Steve, I feel sorry that you received no answer till now. As far as I am concerned, the silence did not mean that I feel your model is bad, it is simply that I do not like tanks in general, just airplanes (and even feeling guilty that they are often military planes).
As a modeler, I can say your paint and details handling is very good, I cannot say much more, sorry : I just friendly hope that tank lovers will confirm you made a good creation.

Thank you for the kind words Tophe. I started out building planes, painting them with just a brush and then hanging them from the ceiling, now I enjoy armor and hovertanks, still love the look of military aircraft. I try to try ( ??? ) new techniques to improve each model, but it is about the creation of the model that I enjoy most now.

Only progress so far is smoothing the turret spacer to the correct shape.  Yard work was last night, 100 degrees  :o. Hope to get a lot done tonight.

Quote from: Wikipedia
In summer (December to February) the average maximum is around 29 °C (84 °F), but there is considerable variation and Adelaide can usually expect several days a year when the daytime temperature is 39 °C (102 °F) and there is generally two or more days in which the maximum is 40 °C (104 °F) or slightly above.

I've used method this because it's the easiest to read .......... & it's human nature to exaggerate. ;)

From wiki -
"The city of Dallas has a humid, hot climate and is often prone to storms (Kφppen climate classification Cfa), though it is located in a region that also tends to receive warm, dry winds from the north and west in the summer, bringing temperatures about 102 °F (39 °C) at times and heat-humidity indexes soaring to as high as 117 °F (47 °C)."

Recently we have had 11 days of 100+ and no rain for 34 days, this after the monsoons of May, in which we had floods all over Texas.
Like they say here in Texas " If you don't like the weather, wait an hour or two."

Base coat on, first wash on the tracks.
The tracks are not secured on the hull, the hull is resting on them.

I think you mean Oxy-acetylene cutting "Gas Axe" edge:

That aside, I agree fully.

I hope the engine is uprated though since the additional weight from the armour and turret will be considerable

Progress report -
2nd and 3rd colors done, wish the tan stripes were a little thinner, but I'm happy with the look. Touch ups, weathering and dirt next.
Tracks not pushed all the way in.
Queeg's background story does say it suffered in performance and reliability.

Well, I hate the paint scheme, but that's just make-up, and I'm a notorious curmudgeon.  ;) The build itself is excellent, both in concept and execution.
