This is actually just a fair to mediocre picture.

I didn't think Jupiter was that clear from the earth surface with a telescope you can buy off the shelf. I figured you'd need an observatory telescope -----

Where I am and on a clear night, something like that would be pretty amazing (being at over 3000 ft and basically no one around for miles would help to)

You can see Jupiter's disk (but not bands) and four moons with a good pair 7 x 35 binoculars. You may even just be able to make out Saturn's rings (although both are setting earlier and earlier, so if you have binoculars, try it soon). With the UCLA 24" on a clear, steady night I could see the disks and very faint features on Jupiter's moons.

This "amateur" even has pictures that match up with images from the Gallileo orbiter (but he used a 14" telescope)

I have binoculars with a bracket for attaching to a camera tripod. I use an antique tripod much sturdier than most to reduce movement. Jupiter and it’s moons are fascinating.

Then there is the comet Leonard due to pass earth around December 14th. I believe it will be visible just before sunrise by that time.

I was showing mrs kitnut your photo of Jupiter Frank, she was quite impressed with it. This morning I found out she has been digging around the internet and found something similar to your telescope, a Nexstar 4SE, on the local buy & sell website. Mrs kitnut likes to bargain and she has asked me to ask your what you think of the 4SE.

Playing around with Photomatix HDR, old stuff I took with my Fuji CrappyCam. Haven't been to an airshow since acquiring my Canon EOS M50 MkII. These were all taken at the Hamilton Airshow in 2014

Mrs kitnut likes to bargain and she has asked me to ask your what you think of the 4SE.

The 4SE has a different optical configuration than my 6 SE (Gregory Maksutov vs Schmidt-Cassegrain on the 6SE) the main difference is that the focal ratio is longer - f13. It would be a good telescope for looking at the Moon, and an OK telescope for Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and some of the brighter deep sky objects. It's not going to be great for astrophotography, though - you'll need to devote time and effort to record video and process it. The 4SE seems to be going for around $530 US. Unless it's a pristine, rarely used telescope, I wouldn't pay more than $250-$300 US. The telescope would be good for terrestrial observing, though.

If you can see the Milky Way easily at night, a good pair of wide angle 7x35 binoculars would be more rewarding. You won't be able to see much detail on the planets, but the view of deep sky objects would be nice, especially paired with a planetarium app like Sky Safari or similar.

Awesome photos Frank (Poole) and Dave (Bowman).   ;D
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Absolutely *phenomenal* view of the ISS taken by @AstroMarshburn riding on the end of the station's robot arm (Canadarm 2 thank you very much) during last week's spacewalk.

This isn't the first time an astronaut in space has been photographed from the ground, either!

Classic Aircraft Photography

Took this image 9 years ago today during an Open Day at Ardmore when we still had Mosquito KA114 in New Zealand. The view out the open cockpit of the T-28 sure was amazing.

Do the 147F have the same fuel tanks as the MH 47E? The RCAF ones look bigger, but I'm comparing to Italeri/Revell box art...
