... Add in the Trumpeter PMC figures and it would be perfect for a nice little vignette somewhere in the DayZ 'verse.

As long as that universe is populated by deformed humanoids, that is. The figures look ok on their own, from a distance, in poor light... but stand them next to a figure made by any other company (even the stiff, melty 1970s Tamiya guys) and you'd be wondering who dressed up human-gorilla hybrids and gave them guns.

That said, the GaZ Tiger, Iveco whatisname that Italeri is coming out with, the Revell Dingo and the Trumpeter Fennik (please don't pull a typical Trumpeter dimension and shape screwup!) are all good news!

I suspect that if you survive long enough in the DayZ 'verse you could end up looking very much like those Trumpeter PMC figures.  A steady diet canned pasta, beans, and beans n weenies all washed down with the likes of Pepsi, Coke, and Dew should alter your body mass rather quickly to resemble those hunks in the PMC kits :)

BTW, the executive figure in the Trumpeter PMC figures set would be ideal for one of the zombies in DayZ with the only real difference being the zombie executive wears a jacket with his tie.

'Ello mis amigos! This thread is being hijacked to Cuba! Patria o Muerte, Venceremos!

Spot the freak:

All three are the same guy! The inbred monstrosity on the left is the original PMC figure; deformed, short, sad. After some plastic surgery, he became the so-awesome-he-believes-his-own -press operator on the right.

Here's 3/4 of the PMC w/VIP set (I was tired of plastic surgery that didn't involve boobs, so I didn't finish the forth guy):

The VIP still looks like he has a dad-uncle or aunt-mom in the family tree...

We now return you to your Meng Models thread, already in progress.

The executive-zombie appears to be one step removed from flinging his feces while dragging knuckles on the ground though it is a very good representation of a modern businessman or bureaucrat.

The PMC Guy on the right looks more humanoid than the PMC Guy on the right.  Sadly there are no options for a PMC Guy with a mullet :)

I wonder if they'll come out with an option to build a regular, non-military, D9.
'Twould give folks a lot more options.

Indeed it would.  Personally, I'd have preferred an older, smaller 'dozer without the elevated sprocket wheel but I'll settle for this one.  As I suggested, it has potential for a great many dioramas.

The T-90 will be a welcome addition.  Not sure I like the deathly prose in the announcement you've linked to, Greg.   Anybody know what the two red things on the turret front are?

Part of the Shtora-1 counter-ATGM system.

Quote from: wikipedia
Protection
...

The T-90 is fitted with a "three-tiered" protection systems. The first tier is the composite armour in the turret, consisting of basic armour shell with an insert of alternating layers of aluminum and plastics and a controlled deformation section.[5]

The second tier is third generation Kontakt-5 ERA (explosive reactive armor) which significantly degrades the penetrating power of kinetic-energy APFSDS ammunition and also these ERA blocks give the turret its distinctive angled "clam shell" appearance. ERA bricks are also located on the turret roof and provide protection from top-attack weapons. The turret's forward armour package in addition to the ERA and steel plating contains a composite filler sandwiched of Russian composite armour between upper and lower steel plates, the composite armour results in a lower weight and improved protection when compared with steel-only armour.[5]

The third tier is a Shtora-1 (Russian: Штора-1 or "curtain" in English) countermeasures suite, produced by Elektromashina of Russia. This system includes two electro-optical/IR "dazzlers" on the front of the turret (which gives the distinct Red Eyes), four Laser warning receivers, two 3D6 aerosol grenade discharging systems and a computerized control system. The Shtora-1 warns the tank's crew when the tank has been 'painted' by a weapon-guidance laser and allows the crew to slew the turret to face the threat. The infrared jammer, the TShU1-7 EOCMDAS, jams the semiautomatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) guidance system of some anti-tank guided missiles. The aerosol grenades are automatically launched after Shtora detects that it has been painted. The aerosol grenades are used to mask the tank from laser rangefinders and designators as well as the optics of other weapons systems. Indian T-90S tanks are not equipped with the Shtora-1 countermeasures suite.[5] it will be equipped with the LEDS-150 Land Electronic Defence System.

The red things are the IR jammers of the "Shtora" countermeasures suite. Basically, you point the turret at an incoming SACLOS ATGW and they project a flickering, coded IR light which swamps the genuine IR flare in the back of the missile. This confuses the goniometer in the guidance unit which is trying to track the missile, and it goes off course. Seems to be some debate about how effective they are, and of course, they won't stop a MACLOS missile, a TV one like a Javelin, or a laser-homer, although Shtora includes other sub-systems to deal with some of those. Maybe.

I'll pass on the FT, may get their Merkava IIIBaz.

Hopefully, with the 100th anniversary coming up, Meng will come out with other WW1 subjects .... A7V, British Mk.1 (with trails), British Mk.IV, Whippet, GunCarrier, French St.Chamond (eary & late versions), French/US Schneider etc etc
Forget about the 2nd-rate manufacturers (Tamiya & Dragon) doing those.

You could imagine all kinds of steampunk projects based on that: steam power, walking machine etc...

Less radically, the fact that they describe it as "cast turret" implies that they're going to do a rivetted turret version at some point, and IIRC, both turret types came with either the 37mm or a Hotchkiss MG. Given how many countries really did buy these things and/or build variants of them in the 1920s/1930s, you could get away with just about any combination of markings and weapons as a credible what if...

Neat - and generic enough that you could apply them to a whiff/sci-fi build.

Oh good - that's their next "safe" release sorted, so the one after that should be something oddball again... ;)

^ Hmmm. Let's see. 1/72 is considered oddball these days. Cold War era fighters are also pretty oddball. Especially when they were flown by only one air arm. Which can only mean that the next aircraft will be a 1/72 F-106 Delta Dart.  :D I mean, the logic is sound, right?

Ah, a man can dream!  :uuu:
