Su-15 ideas and inspiration
« on: December 28, 2011, 02:53:29 PM »
Hi folks,

I have always liked the big Sukhoi Su-15.  What if when they were playing with the Su-17 and Su-24, they also decided to do a VG version of the Su-15:

Some Su-15s in other markings would be nice:

Any Warsaw Pact
China - no split
Egypt
Syria
India
Vietnam
Libya

Given that the Su-15 derives from the Su-7/Su-9/-11 family (same wings as the -9 and -11 to begin with) I'm looking at fitting Su-20 v-g wings to a Su-15.  Of course, there's that design study in one of the softback books on the Su-15 which shows it with a wing similar to that of the original Su-27.

Maybe try a Flagon with a big delta, mounted mid or high. It would look like a Warsaw Pact Avro Arrow !

That looks wicked!  Certainly worth exploring in a smaller (read inexpensive) scale to flesh it out before stepping up in size to something larger in 1/48th scale.

Yeah, that looks very much along my line of crossing the Su-17/20/22 wing with the Su-15 or, more likely, Su-15M.

How deep is your wallet?

Tackling it in a smaller scale will certainly make it easier to hide the imperfections :^)

On the other hand, going all out balls to the wall and tackling the Kopro Su-20-something Fitter and mating it to the Flagon parts will certainly keep you busy.

Going from that, add a duck bill nose à la MiG-23BN/-27 Flogger for better visibility and to get rid of that unnecessary (and expensive 8)) radar.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a colour profile of a duck bill Flagon. Maybe by "Iranian F-14A"?
Cheers,

In my stash is a PM Su-15 two-seater which is destined to become a Soviet Aggressor training aircraft, with mild, credible vis-mods and painted up in USAF SE-Asia scheme to make it look as much like an F-4 as possible.

Since Trumpeter not surprisingly futzed the Su-15TM so badly, stretch the already cartoonishly big nose and add 4 oversized very fast looking anti shipping missiles and enlarged external fuel tanks.  Base them just off the Norwegian border.  Ski equipped when necessary.
