Tank mounting twin 30mm cannons from the A-10. On refurbished M-48 or M-60 hull. Modern fire control system and working side by side with Abrams tanks. That teaming would ruin someone's day. Good reuse of those hulls.

The only problem with M48 or 60 hulls would be the same as the M247 Sgt York. Doubled up logistics chain along with an inability to keep pace with the Abrams (and of course, you'd have to ensure the 'trials' weren't rigged >:D). Better to have the new kit on an M1 hull.

Yep - I'm onboard to using Abrams for reasons you mentioned.
Another topic can be how to best use/modernize all the M-60s.

That's simple enough. Refurbish them, upgrade then flog 'em off to some South American or African country. After all, they use old stuff quite routinely, so an M60 would be a step up. Then you could happily mount an AA system on the hull as it'd be hanging around with its own kind. I suspect just the ticket for dealing with .... (insert bad guy of choice here).

Well, the General Electric entry in the DIVAD competition was based on the company's GAU-8/A 30mm Gatling Gun.

In my Greater Australia story, I had SPAAGS which used either a Cheiftain or Challenger 2 hull + modified turned with radar and missiles and GAU-8/A.

Was based off their earlier T37 VIGILANTE AA Gun, but rechambered in 35mm NATO instead of 37mm.

I scaled a Leopard 2A5 and a GAU-8 for this pic. I actually snagged a GAU-8 from a 32nd Trumpeter A-10 and *someday* hope to put it to use on a project like this:

Great minds think alike...or fools never differ ;). I too have a GAU-8 from a 32nd Trumpeter A-10 and plan to add it to a 1/35 tank (either a Chieftain or Challenger) to create an "Echinda ADV".

The only problem with having to GAU-8s on a tank is where do you put the ammunition? The GAU-8's ROF is prodigious. Using two of them would increase chances of a kill appreciably but you'd more than like be forever having to withdraw to resup. One GAU-8 would more than likely be the best compromise between ROF and resupply needs.

ROF switch ? Three settings ?

I think you're assuming pin-point accuracy.

Nope. Basically plan to use same space as used by 120mm ammunition for 30mm ammunition.

Well 32.8mm if you are using a 1/32 GAU-8 on 1/35 hull ;D

That big drum looking thingy on the rear of the turret is the ammo bin. Same as the A-10.
Thing about Air Defence engagements is, you are not going to be firing a-la hollywood at masses of incoming targets. Think of missile systems, the most they have is 8 before reloading, so, 8 engagements before the ammo truck comes up and does a resup.
Even a twin 35 only has enough ammo for maybe 8-10 combat bursts of 2.5 seconds each. If you're in a short range AD vehicle and engaging more than 10 aircraft in between resupply opportunities, then something has gone horribly wrong with the theatre air defence plan.
In my ADATS troop, although we carried 8 missiles per system, we would have to request permission to expend more than 6 per day. Granted, missile resupply can easily become a strategic issue compared to 35mm rounds, hence the daily expenditure cap.
All that to say I ain't gonna add a ginormous ammo hopper to muh tank.

Actually a quick search shows you can get them in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35. The 1/35 might make an interesting addition to many a build.
The 1/48 ones if used on a 1/35 build are close to 14.5mm which could be interesting. Similarly, the 1/35 ones if used on a 1/48 build are ~27mm.
