Title: Shelf (or rather box) of doom opens here...
Post by: Artoor_K on December 05, 2015, 08:42:09 PM
First of many...
Mutated to its limits...whiffed whiff...many configurations tested...planned to be stealth Skorpion...then get back to original, primed and throw to box...Now it's time for him to make it's way to shelf again -  1/48 Testors Mig-37...
Status - lost plate between verticals and both airbrake plates (along with actuators, removed both plates near exhausts, cut-off flaps, sharpened radome, removed sensors, rear bomb bay closed forever, additional two missile pylons under wings
Current state - almost disaster
Planned state - I want to show it without shame :)

Nothing is too far gone if you still have the canopy! Perhaps someone here can provide some parts?

You should really finish this, IMHO, it still has a lot of potential.  :)

Well , I managed to scratch some parts. Airbrake plates and rear plate are ready. I've decided to remove sharp nose and get back to original one. Missiles OOB were awful and still I don't like them so I'll use missiles from spare box.

A shame you changed your mind about the long nose feature, I was rather liking that look.  Nice choice on missiles for your project.  Certainly better looking than the weapons that came with the kit.

Not without reason :) When I was sanding putty on the nose I did it much too strong. As a result I heard a crack and then I saw a hole. Maybe, just maybe I will make nose more sharp but without elongating it that much

That certainly makes perfect sense.  Had to rethink my own efforts in modifying a 1:48th scale Heller Mirage IV that I had removed the nose from so that I could replace it with a proper radome nose.  The repetitive sanding to get it to look right and blend in with the original parts resulted in some damage that requires replacement again.

Well, I've decided to go with short nose with camera window.  I'm not gonna put plate near exhausts. Simply , it don't make any sense. As you see, both airbrakes are ready. Awful russian greenish blue/bluish green (I prefer to call this color surgical green because few years ago it was a very common shade especially in hospitals in my country :) ) is also there.

After some problems my first CYW2015 model is finished. I hoped to do it better but now I can look at it without disgust.

Oh, this is just magnificent! Definitely one you should display with pride now that you've finished it.

Looking good!  The wing mounted AAM on pylons is a nice touch.  Had you considered mounting them on the wingtips before settling for the under the wing positions?

In fact, never :) I like the shape of the wingtips :)

Fight with Strike Eagle goes on... Topside is almost painted, bottom not at all. I'll try to do more tomorrow. I had some troubles with color but I've decided to leave it as it is. It's darker on real Strike Eagles, don't you think?

Yup, most of the Strike Eagles i've seen are darker... but this is What-If, right?  ;) It's looking pretty good anyway, get it done! :)

IIRC Strike Eagles are gunship grey/gray. I wouldn't worry about it. Just put different markings on it.
