Title: Kriegsmarine Triple 203mm Turret Design 1937-38
Post by: Cliffy B on October 09, 2013, 06:44:37 AM
Found this over on Secret Projects (http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,18915.0.html) and wanted to share with you guys.  No one over there can shed any light on this so I'm hoping someone here can help.

"Wurger" on Secret Projects discovered it and said,
Quote
"Most people know about the German lack of affection for triple turrets, although they had build some 15 and 28cm triples. What startled me in a BA/MA findbook was this 1937/1938 20,3 cm turret. I had to order copies, and here they are. Even more interesting than the mount is: it was intended for which warship?"

I cleaned up the original scans that he ordered.  Make sure to click all the way through Photobucket as this is very high-res.

I'm interested in its weight specifically as I'm curious to know whether or not the Hippers could have taken 3 of these in lieu of their 4 twins.  Anyone have any ideas?

You can use the data on the NavWeaps page for the 203mm gun and do some estimating for a possible
turret weight.

The shorter tube would of course weigh less, but, total mount weight could be
as much as 40 - 50% greater which, IMHO, would lead to a serious redesign of
the Hippers.
