To begin with, a subtle whiff of replacing the BMW 801 with a Jumo 211, possibly from a Ju88:

I have a fuzzy memory of a symmetrical Bv 141 WHIF ... but can't find an image. Does anyone else remember such a twin-engined build?

I remember yours.  ;)

I was thinking a smaller float mounted on the bottom of the crew pod,
so it would be larger than a typical wingfloat.

ah yes it would be different, a nice variant, like 1 1/2 float  ;)
