How about a twinned Ki-61, Zwilling or F-82 style?

Maybe a Ki-100 but with a DB605 or 603 instead of the radial?

That kind of describes the RW Ki-61-III ... but with a longer (or bigger all-around) engine.

My take on this (with DB 605A): https://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=351.msg199650#msg199650

As for the larger DB 603A, what about a single-engined Ki-64 derivative?

The 603 is a big, heavy lump that really wasn't suitable for a single-engined fighter* and the power to
weight ratio wasn't all that impressive. Adding the increased weight of the engine to required airframe
mods would probably produce an aircraft with either lower or, at best, equal performance.

*Yes, I know it was used in the Ta-152C, but that was as much a matter of expediency as anything else.

When I looked into that, I was surprised by just how much bigger the DB 603 was than the Jumo 213A  :o

Kawasaki Ha40 (essentially DB 601)

Width: 739 mm (29.1 in)
Height: 1,027 mm (40.4 in)
Dry weight: 590 kg (1,320 lb)
Power:  Up to 865 kW (1,159 hp)
Power-to-weight ratio: 1.47 kW/kg (0.89 hp/lb)
     DB 605AM
Displacement: 35.7 L (2,176 in³)
Length: 2,158 mm (85 in)
Width: 760 mm (30 in)
Height: 1,037 mm (41 in)
Dry weight: 756 kg (1,667 lb)
Power:  Up to 1,324 kW (1,775 hp)
Power-to-weight ratio: 1.68 kW/kg (1.02 hp/lb)
     DB 603A
Displacement: 44.52 L (2,716.9 in3)
Length: 2,610.5 mm (102.8 in)
Width: 830 mm (32.7 in)
Height: 1156 mm (45.5 in)
Dry weight: 920 kg (2,030 lb)
Power: Up to 1,287 kW (1,726 hp)
Power-to-weight ratio: 1.29 kW/kg (0.79 hp/lb)
     Jumo 213E
Displacement: 35 L (2,135.2 in³)
Length: 2,266 mm (89.2 in)
Width: 777 mm (30.6 in)
Height: 980 mm (38.6 in)
Dry weight: 1040 kg (2,072 lb)
Power:  Up to 1,508 kW (2,022 hp)
Power-to-weight ratio: 1.37 kW/kg (0.83 hp/lb)

It should be noted though that one of the attractants of the DB603 series was that they were seen to offer greater development potential with some developmental versions offering up to 2206 kW (2958 hp) power.

True. For the realities of 1944-45, though, I take Jon's point about the DB 603 being mainly a bomber powerplant while the Jumo 213 was better-scaled for fighters. Reportedly, Junkers were unhappy that their Jumo 211 was seen as a bomber-only powerplant. I guess this late-war reversal of engine-makers' fortunes validated Junkers decision to redesign the 211.
