Tarangus Model Kits
« on: December 13, 2011, 03:34:07 PM »
Last week I received an email from Tarangus AB - their 1/48 Saab A 32A Lansen kit will hit the hobby shops in January 2012!

Pre-orders are already being taken by some.

Pics below:

Me thinking of one in either RN FAA or RAN FAA scheme...

Regards,

Greg

The box artwork kind of grows on you after looking at it a few more times.  I suddenly realized what it was about the Lansen that had me returning to look at it again.  The North American F-93 has a lot in common with the Saab Lansen

Granted the original F-93 with the NACA inlets is not much to go on but the later version with more conventional intakes does lend itself well to a comparison.  BTW, there is a nice three-view of the Lansen on the Wikipedia page that is large enough to be appreciated.  Too bad they did not do that with the F-93 entry.

Jeffry, I have the 3-view drawing of the YF-93A from the book U.S. Fighters by Lloyd S. Jones, 1975, Aero Publishers. I think I am not allowed to make it public but if you send me your E-mail address (either as Personnal Message from this site, or at my E-mail, included in my profile), I will scan it and send it to you.

Mr Fontaine you've explained why I've had a soft spot for Lansens all these years.

Updated news from Tarangus:

[The 1/48] J32B fighter Lansen will appear in Q3 this year. However, we're already working on the next kit from Tarangus, which is the JA37 Viggen! The Viggen kit is expected to hit the shelves no later than during Q1 2013.

Here's hoping this is a start of new 1/48 Swedish kits.  Come on 1/48 J-21!!!!

The J21 is definetely a plane that we're looking at making in the future. We intend to cover as many aircraft with a history in the Swedish Air Force as possible, not only Swedish built planes.

Enticing....

A full metal Viggen and a new J 29A/B Tunnan in 1/72 scale!

The new JA 37 Viggen was due to be released later this quarter, but we have decided to upgrade the moulds! The CAD design was so good that we will now abandon the short run technology for the Viggen and go for metal moulds! This will mean a superb quality kit! Unfortunately this means that the kit will now be released during the summer.

Our first kit in 1/72 scale will be released before the Viggen! We are working on a J 29A/B Tunnan, which should be ready by April/May! More news to follow!

Both will be much appreciated as we've need a new Tunnan and a new Viggen for some time.

Wonder if they'll later do the version that served with UN forces.  I keep thinking that a Draken in UN markings would be nice.

Noticed how similar plan view of J-29 and A-6 wings are.
Give it the Singapore Skyhawk treatment with a dry F404.

From Tarangus:

Press release for the Saab 37 Viggen in 1/48 scale

Tarangus and MPM announces the first test shots of of the forthcoming Saab37 Viggen in 1/48 scale!

The Viggen is an iconic aircraft which has been somewhat neglected from a modeling perspective. There hasn’t been a new kit for at least 30 years”, says Fredrik Zetterberg from Tarangus.

“We had considered making the Viggen for some time when we were approached by Tarangus”, says Jiri Silhanek, CEO of MPM, “it was just a golden opportunity for both companies.”

MPM is a well known brand for modelers worldwide, having produced many classic kits with an ever improving quality for many years. Tarangus is a younger company, specializing in aircraft with a history in the Swedish Air Force. Together they have developed the new 1/48 scale kit.

Tarangus will release the first version, the JA 37 fighter version, in the first months of 2014. The MPMversions will followin early summer 2014. In 2015, Tarangus will release the final versions.

The kit is designed using the same CAD system used by Airbus and thus ensures a perfect fit of the parts. The design, combined with the smart layout of the parts in the steel mould, ensures that all versions will be possible to make. This includes all the differences between the versions, including the longer fuselage of the JA 37 Viggen fighter version and the different spine of the two-seater Sk 37.“We’re very happy to work with MPM on this kit.

Tarangus has previously only used short run technology for its kits, but the Viggen deserved an all metal mould”, continues Fredrik Zetterberg, “and the result is actually better than I dared hoping for!”“We look forward to this kit”, says JiriSilhanek, “and hopefully it’s the start of a beautiful relationship!”
