Ace combat 3 SU-37
« on: September 22, 2014, 05:50:59 PM »
Hey everyone it's mikejapan!
It's been a very long time since I've last posted on here.
I have ordered the SU-37 conversion kit for the 1/48 Academy SU-27 and also purchased the ECM pods!
They should be getting shipped soon, now I need to find a Flanker...

Nils: Hell yeah! I actually have the Japanese version of AC3. I can't believe I finally played it on my PS2. Had to open the thing up to mod it a bit.

Artoor: Also I'll look into those kits and find any reviews on them!

Tophe: I'm happy that I'm finally going to build the plane I've always needed. :)

Looking at the main color....What color do you guys think it is? Flat Gull Gray or something?

Alright, I finally got the bird today and started grinding out the necessary areas.
Here's some WIP pics

I started getting rid of the antennae on the Intakes.

Still need to remove the areas on the upper half.

Checking fit

Looking good.

Mind you, that bottom pic makes me think about doing a scale-o-rama'd business jet...

Alright more photos!

Got the necessary places cut out.

Used a pair of small curved scissors and x-acto knife to carve out the gear bays.

Cut the flaps out to the correct shape.

This is a rough job, it'll require lots of love to make it the way it's supposed to be.

Especially this right here, won't take much though.

More will come

Thanks,
Michael

Wow! That completely changes the shape

That it does man and it's magnificent in person.
Very nose heavy right now.
I can see why they added a metal front landing gear for the conversion kit.

More updates, I have started painting parts but the main body will have to wait.

Some raised panel, don't ask me what it's for. I don't even know

I've started construction on the very front of the coffin system.

There was a gaping hole where I cut the flaps off so I had to shape plasticard onto it.

Flaps are on

More will come so stay tuned!
Michael

This Flanker is a money pit as is.
I can imagine how much the Fenrir would be. lol

I doubt you're going to keep it, but I really like the contrast between the different colors.

Your mods are enviably precise and seem almost surgical.

Looking forward to your next update,

It is quite catchy isn't it? Like it's a DEPO out of Hill AFB.
But no this bird will painted in gloss gull gray.
Also, thanks for the compliments. The grinding away of plastic was time consuming, couldn't be possible without some scissors, grinder and sandpaper.
From now on when it comes to the COFFIN system. I'll be shooting from the hip.

Thanks,
Michael

Alright everyone!
More pics!

I'm obviously not done painting these parts.

They look slightly darker in person.
I used Gloss Gull Gray and Sand Beige.

I've noticed gaps on the forward fuselage after I had painted it.
Simple fix, fill it in with apoxie clay, tape off the area, then paint it once again.

I had to google what is aircraft actually looks like in the game, and now I can finally see where your headed with it. Are you going to build up the cockpit area to a more rounded shape? At the moment, it appears to flat. I would also recommend sanding down the front panel on the nose more as it is too pronounced.
These are just my opinions though, so please don't be offended.

Don't worry I take no offense, I know it should be more rounded. Which is difficult for me...
About the panel/whole cockpit, too be honest I did that intentionally, because the real deal is more or less inlayed into the fuselage.
I wanted it to stand out that's all. Perhaps once I get pics up you'll notice it ain't too bad.
I'm not too OCD with this plane. I want it close enough. (:
But I do appreciate your opinion on this aircraft!

How about using something like Milliputt for sculpting the cockpit area. You wouldn't need much and once dry, you could scribe in the lines.
