Title: 1/72 airfix 109 goes racing
Post by: arkon on October 16, 2014, 11:55:51 AM
started this a couple weeks ago, chopped a good section out of the fuselage and quite abit off the wingtips. sanding all the raised crap off and I am going to try to scribe panel lines etc. for the first time. will be filling in the gear doors and re-scribing those also.
old revel fw-190 gave up its canopy for this one.

looks interesting but with so little wing area I'd hate to try bringing it in - very high landing speed & the -109 was known for dropping a wing, narrow undercarriage & canopy trapping the pilot inside ! :o

Can't wait to see the colour scheme :)

With a spare set of F-4F Wildcat wings and scrap plastic for struts, you could biplane this baby.

I'll get me coat...

thanks for looking ! as to the short wings I think I got a little carried away with the chopping   :icon_crap: but it is a racer and the men in those days lived on the edge!  ;D  and as to the landing gear I plan on re-scribing them to resemble those on the me-209/109r so that would take care of the wobblies while on the ground and hopefully the 190 glass should help in escape.

not quite sure on the final paint scheme, but it will be racey!(hopefully).

arghh! BdB , why must you come up with such great ideas? >:D :-*  had not even thought of that, now just hoping to find another cheap airfix 109g in a bag again. don't have a wildcat but I do think I have a F6-F3 hellcat from hobbyboss.....hmmmm.

and attached is a plan view of the plane that inspired this build and a comparison shot of the racer and the other airfix 109 that I am working on.(same kit)

thanks again , Mike

I had a feeling the Me-209 had something to do with this ......

They tried an armed version of the 209, sorta reverse Whiffing :D
