My brother asked me what (cheap) gift I wanted for birthday, and – well – I had decided to stop modelling with my son’s arrival, but this arrival is delayed, so… one more model, the very last one I think. I wanted a tiny model because I have no more room, maybe in front of books in shelves. So I decided to turn plastic a mind-project of mine: aesthetic improvement of a P-47 Thunderbolt nose, with a P-47 eggplane as tiny basis:

My project is:
- removing propeller, undercarriage, guns, roundels
- with putty, creating a round glider nose
- gluing the half wings together and below the fuselage (to stand without wheels and to decrease span further)
- installing both tailplanes on the port side (for a touch of asymmetry)
- paint: all sky blue, as usual for my models, with a black canopy
-
Here is the project I plan to build: PG-47 Glideggbolt

PS. The kit is now already ordered from Japan, but its arrival date is unknow. Moreover, I have no digital camera to take photos of the physical steps till February maybe. At least you will see the physical result maybe. Or all steps in a long time if transport from Japan is very long.
-
You know you have "the sickness" when you are converting Eggplanes :D
-
Do you mean "transforming already-transformed planes" is a further step in accute craziness? I confess I am very ill, so... :)
-
Here's hoping the kit arrives soon and your camera makes it back before February, Tophe. I'm always impatient to see one of your fantastic works of art!

The kit had arrived in time for my birthday, directly from Japan! :)
I still have no camera but my scanner seems enough to show you the parts, at least. I may start to build and scan to see...

It looks like you're all set for a very happy birthday!
Many happy returns on your special day, mon ami!

This is the aspect of the "normal" unreal plane (with temporary tape no glue), before I butcherize it my way:
I may have a problem with the tailplane that will change side, part of it being included in the fuselage with an oblical cutting. I think I will cut it again straight, shorter.
-
I like the look these scanner pics are giving - looks like a secretly snapped spy/recon plane/satellite photo of a top secret project. :D
-
Well, GTX, this was just the first pic, the others may be less "possible": on the picture below, after little work (removing wing chords and supercharger exhausts, truncating the tailplane that will change side, gluing together the external wings), the aspect is worse - why is the fuselage so blurred when the wings are so clear?

Anyway, a lot of puty and sanding, repeat, remains to be done.
-
The first puty is on, welcome hardwork (soon, after drying of the other side)...

During drying, it is possible to draw this project:

I must deserve my reputation about double-planes, yes. If I had two kits, I would have made some twin-eggplane:

-
That is some funny stuff right there :D :omg-:
-
Thanks!
As I realized my drawing has invented (maybe) the very first asymmetric eggplane ever, I posted the P-47Y at the end of my Web-site http://cmeunier.chez-alice.fr/Asymm_addition.htm (http://cmeunier.chez-alice.fr/Asymm_addition.htm) . With a link towards here, maybe this will bring new dreamy friends.
:)
-
I forgot to say somewhere: thanks Hasegawa Co. for having invented those eggplane delicious sources...
-
After the first sanding, the egg-glider has almost a round nose, this is the good direction. Let me go on and on...

For a moment, I thought that was an ultra-sound image of your new baby. In a way, I guess it really is your new "baby".
Yes, mon ami, please do go on and on and on!!!

Thanks BdB... :)
Well, I discarded unused parts... except the propeller, that may be used, even on this model itself. Either on the tail (as help for lift of a heavy tail tendancy) or else above the canopy, for a UAV helicopter PH-47... I hesitate.

Hi,
This should be cute. I love the Egg planes, so much, that I also started one some time ago of a Cheetah D. I did however make a mould of a real egg to build it on.
Cheers

A Mirage-Cheetah-D eggplane would be very lovely. I am the happy owner of a Mirage 5 caricature by Rob Henderson (http://www.caricatureaircraftpictures.com/ (http://www.caricatureaircraftpictures.com/)), and it is very pleasant indeed. You have an interesting project to build, for sure.
-
Yeah, I like his stuff. He captures it so sweet. Here is a pic of my Cheetah D eggplane, but it still needs a lot of work.

Wow! hehehe :D

The PSR work is finished (according to my imperfect standards), the wings and tailplanes are glued to the fuselage. Close to completion.
Alas, I don't know where my wife (still abroad) has put the paint and white-spirit, so... I will use the Heller water-based paint found in Heller 1/144 jet-kits (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=221.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=221.0) ), and the intended colour of the model is changing from sky-blue into silver-grey (like the plastic, but covering the light-grey puty). I will try to make a scanned picture after drying (and next month: a true camera picture from above)
-
The model is finished!

Well it is no more a Glider PG-47 but an autogyro-glider GAG-47 (in French "gag" means joke)...
I should not say "it" but "she", and yes, she has blue eyes... this is not the scanner's fault (for this detail).
[Next month a better view, with camera]

Wow you never fail to take it to a completely new level, Tophe! I love the tail mounted rotor! While it appears whimsical, it also makes me think "Hmmm you know, this could work!"
Another magnificent display of your modeling skill, mon ami!

Yes, mon ami, please do go on and on and on!!!

Me too!
BTW: Awesome project!
-
Thanks! The model is finished, but I wait for the camera, which should come back in April.
-
My (wife and son and) camera have arrived, but the camera is broken :(, and repairing it is more expensive than buying a new one :(. It is ordered, arrival scheduled on April 12th...
-
I have received the camera, but it doesn't work without memory card (not available in my small town). I have ordered one. Arrival scheduled for April 15th. Sorry.
-
The card arrived. I am not yet good at operating the camera and the picture is blurred but this is better than the scanner I hope.
